Role: SQL DBA
Duration: 6+ Months
Location: Orange, CA ( Remote role but candidate need to be local to LA, CA)
Job Summary
The Database Administrator, Sr. manages the day-to-day operations of all SQL Server database systems. The incumbent recommends, develops, supports and enhances the database infrastructure to meet business needs by providing technical analysis and support to the Information Technology Services (ITS) department and other business units as required. The incumbent works independently with input from the department manager. This incumbent frequently interacts with ITS staff and business units to resolve database issues.
Position Responsibilities
  • Participates in a mission driven culture of high-quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity, and accountability.
  • Assists the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborates with others to support short and long-term goals/priorities for the department.
  • Monitors database operations on core ITS systems.
  • Coordinates with network administrators and application developers to provide performance tuning to meet application requirements.
  • Provides functional and technical expertise for client/server development, particularly database design and optimization.
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to programmers and analysts in the database analysis process.
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves problems related to access, usage, and performance of database system.
  • Creates and maintains physical database structures to support application development.
  • Maintains security across various environments.
  • Develops and maintains backup strategy and recovery plan.
  • Creates scripts to automate day-to-day tasks.
  • Manages database upgrade process.
  • Fulfills on-call / after-hours support as required.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Possesses the Ability to:
  • Utilize all higher-level SQL functions to automate current processes.
  • Create SSIS packages, complex stored procedures and triggers.
  • Schedule jobs through SQL Server Agent. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with CalOptima leadership and staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • . Utilize computer and appropriate software (e.g., Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and job-specific applications/systems to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets, and/or other information applicable to the position assignment.
  • Make recommendations on database setup, load balancing, security, and other database administration functions.

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a related field required.
  • 4 years of experience with progressive technical responsibilities in Information Technology Services with specific emphasis on SQL server administration required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) Certification preferred.

Knowledge of:
  • MS SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2019 Database Administration.
