Location: Boston, Massachusetts (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking an Oracle Database Administrator to join a team focused on supporting critical client platforms. This role is responsible for the hands-on administration of a large-scale Oracle database environment, with a primary focus on performance tuning, troubleshooting, automation, and operational support. This position is a long-term opportunity with the intent to convert to a full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, monitor, and support Oracle database environments, including Oracle 19c, RDBMS, and ASM.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex SQL, database, and system performance issues through query optimization, execution plan analysis, and indexing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using Shell scripting (Korn, Bash, or C shell) to improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform database maintenance, including patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, backup, and recovery activities.
  • Respond to production incidents, database issues, and operational support inquiries, providing timely resolution.
  • Partner with application and infrastructure teams to resolve issues and support business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain database administration standards and operational best practices for a large-scale environment.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Database Administration experience, including Oracle 19c.
Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience in performance tuning, including analyzing SQL plans, reviewing trace files, and understanding indexing strategies.
  • Strong Shell scripting capability (Korn, Bash, or C shell).
  • Proficiency with SQL and PL/SQL for diagnostics and performance analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills within complex database environments.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Oracle RAC or Exadata administration experience.
  • Experience with Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle ZFS, or Oracle ZDLRA.
  • Python scripting experience.
  • Experience with ServiceNow for incident, change, and request management.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based database environments such as Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Exposure to SQL Server administration.
