Job Responsibilities and Duties:
At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Supervisor - Sr. Engineer is responsible for owning the fundamental engineering aspects of strategic mine planning and mineral reserves. This role works with the mine sites but is primarily focused on strategic planning and designing of the Life of Mine Plan. Also included in the scope of this role is the creation of annual Mineral Reserves, mining optionality analysis, and the implementation of business improvement efforts at the Montana operations.
The Supervisor - Sr. Engineer's primary duties are:
Operational Leadership:
  • Foster an inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous improvements.
  • Foster positive, cooperative relationships with other groups in the Company.

Safety and Environmental Compliance:
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure that Environmental Excellence is practiced within area of responsibility.

Technical Duties:
  • Accountable for all mine planning/scheduling beyond 5 years- Life of Mine (LOM) Plan
  • Assist sites and the Chief Engineer with the formation of the 5 year plan to integrate the 2 year plan to the LOM Plan
  • Lead in the development of LOM plans for each site with capital (infrastructure) considerations made in conjunction with engineering and relevant staff; work with Finance staff in the creation of LOM economic models and presentation.
  • Lead in the development of yearly reserve work in conjunction with the Engineering Manager
  • Lead in overall mining method improvement work and support the ongoing S7 Simba/SLE improvement efforts.
  • Lead in developing strategic options to inform LOM work.
  • Manage reporting-documentation and related processes in support of accurate mine planning as well as SOX and other related processes as well as identifying areas for improvement

Business Improvement/Technical Enablement:
  • Support Technical Staff and ICT with the Technical Enablement Roadmap
  • Understand the technical data flows and be able to point out bottlenecks/areas for improvement
  • Identify areas for improvement and be able to "go do" with staff or make a case for improvement
  • Support the Chief Engineer with department process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Team Management:
  • Coordinates resources and efforts to compliment all areas in realizing overall company goals.
  • Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic plannings goals are being set and met. Ensure that resource value is being maximized.
  • Lead team to maximum MT operations through safely optimizing mine systems, planning, and procedures.
  • Oversees multiple working groups and takes appropriate action in supporting a positive and inclusive work environment as well as professionally addressing behaviors that don't align with Sibanye-Stillwater's core values.
  • Demonstrate positive two-way verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrate fair and consistent administration of Sibanye-Stillwater policies procedures and support the Technical Service Department in dealing with employee concerns.
  • Supervising mining engineers and their activities
  • Train and evaluate direct reports.
  • Work effectively with engineering teams across the site and the Chief Engineer to standardize processes
  • Must be willing to fill in for the Chief Engineer/Engineering Manager on relevant duties as required

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, as well as, within a team-based environment.

Demonstrable skills and experience:
  • Strong familiarity with Mine Design and Planning Principles
  • Strong familiarity with mining economics, cash flows, and economic analysis
  • Familiarity with mining method analysis
  • Familiarity with mine infrastructure design, rock mechanics, and ventilation principles.
  • Strong computer skills in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Proven mine planning and scheduling experience.
  • Proficient use of the Deswik / Vulcan or other 3D mine design planning software packages.
  • Familiarity with reserve reporting requirements under SEC Regulation S-K Part 1300 is preferred

Education & Experience
  • BS in Mining Engineering, equivalent, with a minimum of 6 years of mine engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of overall experience with previously Long Range Design/Economic Analysis experience is preferred.
  • Ability to sign as a Reserve QP under 17 U.S.C 229.1300 (SEC Regulation S-K Part 1300) preferred
