Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior cost consultants with the preparation and maintenance of construction cost estimates and cost plans at various project stages, from Feasibility through to Construction Documents, with a focus on architectural and structural scope.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs using drawings and specifications to support cost planning, estimating, and tender documentation.
  • Support the analysis of material, labour, and subcontractor pricing to develop accurate and well-documented estimates.
  • Assist with reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope requirements, assumptions, and potential gaps.
  • Support senior staff during value management and value engineering exercises by preparing backup quantities, option comparisons, and cost summaries.
  • Help prepare tender documentation, tender comparison summaries, and tender reconciliation reports for senior review.
  • Conduct site visits and compile detailed construction progress photo reports to support senior team members with construction progress monitoring, measurement of completed works, and preparation of payment certification.
  • Support post-contract cost management activities, including change order reviews, monthly cost reporting, and cash flow tracking.
  • Assist with basic contract administration tasks such as document control and maintaining cost records.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and internal team members to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Maintain organized cost files, spreadsheets, and supporting documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support senior staff in meeting client expectations through timely, accurate, and professional deliverables.
  • Develop technical, commercial, and professional skills through on-the-job learning and mentorship.

Qualifications / Experience

  • 0-3 years of experience in a cost consulting, quantity surveying, or construction-related role (co-op, internship, or graduate experience considered).
  • A recognized University Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related field.
  • Working toward, or interest in pursuing, professional membership with organizations such as CIQS and/or RICS.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Foundational understanding of quantity take-offs and measurement principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and manage quantities, cost data, and supporting documentation.
  • Willingness to learn cost planning, estimating, tendering, and post-contract cost management under senior supervision.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; exposure to Microsoft Project is an asset.
  • Experience with or exposure to estimating software (e.g., CostX) is an asset but not required.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
  • Full Canadian working rights (Citizen, Permanent Resident, or valid Work Permit).
  • Full Canadian valid driver's licence
