What is a Senior Software Engineer Relocation?

A Senior Software Engineer Relocation refers to a senior-level software engineering position that includes support for relocating to a different city, state, or country for the job. This typically means the employer provides assistance such as covering moving expenses, helping with visas, or offering temporary housing. Senior Software Engineers in these roles are expected to bring significant technical experience and leadership skills to their new location. Relocation packages can vary widely depending on the company and the destination. These positions are common in global tech companies seeking to attract top talent from around the world.

What are some common challenges Senior Software Engineers may face when relocating for a new role, and how can they prepare for a smooth transition?

Senior Software Engineers relocating for a new position often encounter challenges such as adapting to a new work culture, navigating unfamiliar technologies or systems, and settling into a new city or country. To ensure a smooth transition, it's helpful to communicate proactively with your new team, seek guidance on local best practices, and make use of any relocation support offered by your employer. Additionally, joining internal tech communities and attending onboarding sessions can help you build relationships and quickly acclimate to both the technical and social aspects of your new workplace.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Software Engineer, particularly when relocating, and why are they important?

Job Overview

Relativity is a leading legal data intelligence company building technology that helps users organize data, discover the truth, and act on it with confidence. Our AIโ€‘powered, cloud platform, RelativityOne, transforms massive volumes of complex information into actionable insights for litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, data breach responses, and other highโ€‘stakes legal work where accuracy and trust are crucial.

The world's largest law firms, corporations, and government agencies rely on Relativity's legal AI software to securely surface and manage the most relevant and impactful information in their matters. Beyond our commercial impact, we're deeply committed to expanding access to technology for academic institutions through Relativity Academic and supporting pro bono legal work through Justice for Change.

At Relativity, engineers don't just write code. They shape how industries uncover critical insights, ensure compliance, and continuously evolve our platform using cloudโ€‘native architectures, AI capabilities, and modern developer tooling. Our AI powers privacy programs, identifies confidential information, and detects language indicating misconduct. We're reimagining how legal professionals uncover truth at scale, and engineering is at the heart of that transformation.

Discovery Team

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Discovery team, you will design, build, and operate the next generation of AIโ€‘driven, scalable, highโ€‘performance systems that process large volumes of data. You'll work on secure, cloudโ€‘native solutions that support highโ€‘stakes legal workflows and operate at significant scale. If you're passionate about solving complex technical problems, designing for scale, and leading through influence while building tools that matter, Relativity offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact.

Job Description and Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and operate secure, maintainable, and scalable fullโ€‘stack cloud services using modern architectures
  • Build user interfaces with React and backend services with.NET (C#), integrating data pipelines and cloud services
  • Utilize Azure services such as Azure Functions, App Services, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, and Azure DevOps to deliver highly available and secure applications
  • Collaborate with engineers and product partners through pair programming, design sessions, and shared problemโ€‘solving
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues using modern observability and debugging practices
  • Influence reliability, security, and performance practices through technical leadership and feedback
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship, leading design discussions and code reviews to raise engineering quality
  • Drive service ownership by leading reliability efforts, participating in onโ€‘call rotations, and guiding incident response and root cause analysis
  • Adopt AIโ€‘assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor to accelerate development and reduce boilerplate
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute to architectural decisions

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on cloudโ€‘native or distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of modern software design principles and cloudโ€‘native architectures
  • Proven ability to deliver complex solutions and own them end to end in production environments
  • Experience raising engineering quality through design discussions, code reviews, and mentorship
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and incident response
  • Strong crossโ€‘functional communication and collaboration skills

Preferred

  • Experience building fullโ€‘stack systems at scale using React and.NET
  • Familiarity with performance tuning, scalability tradeโ€‘offs, and secureโ€‘byโ€‘default design
  • Experience working in highโ€‘scale or regulated environments
  • Familiarity with AIโ€‘assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code

Why We Could Be a Great Fit

Impactful Mission

  • Help organizations organize data, discover the truth, and act on it in highโ€‘stakes legal and regulatory matters.
