Job description

Job Summary:
D-Wave is a leader in the development and delivery of quantum computing systems, software, and services. They are seeking a Senior Quantum Software Engineer, Compiler to develop key pieces of their software platform, focusing on the compiler and interface to various quantum programming environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to translate functional requirements into technical specifications and robust solutions
โ€ข Work directly with quantum application engineers and quantum physicists to understand how to convert quantum circuits into implementations targeting our industry-leading dual-rail qubit architecture
โ€ข Architect and build efficient, reliable, scalable, and maintainable compiler software and tools
โ€ข Write clean, well-documented code and conduct thorough code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability
โ€ข Troubleshoot and debug issues, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize performance and improve the user experience
โ€ข Provide software mentorship and guidance on best practices and help drive adherence to software best practices
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Masterโ€™s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, math, physics, chemistry, or equivalent experience with strong physics aptitude.
โ€ข 5+ years of hands-on software development experience with C, C++, Python, or another general-purpose compiled programming language.
โ€ข Strong understanding of compiler design fundamentals.
โ€ข 2+ years developing compiler software/transpiling quantum models and using quantum APIโ€™s (Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Q#, or Cirq) to convert quantum circuits into quantum logic and basis gates.
โ€ข Experience with intermediate representations such as QIR and compiler toolchain technologies including LLVM, MLIR, lexers, and parsers.
โ€ข Experience programming with one or more high level quantum programming languages and/or models such as Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Q#, or Cirq.
โ€ข Proficient with database systems and SQL with hands-on experience working with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle).
โ€ข Competence with Git version control, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
โ€ข Use of software testing principles and practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing.
โ€ข Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
โ€ข Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
Preferred:
โ€ข PhD in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, math, physics, or chemistry
โ€ข 7+ years of hands-on software development experience with C, C++, Python, or another general-purpose compiled programming language
โ€ข 5+ years developing compiler software/transpiling quantum models and using APIs such as Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Q#, or Cirq to convert quantum circuits into quantum logic and basis gates
โ€ข 2+ years directly programming with one or more high level quantum programming languages and/or models (Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Q#, or Cirq)
โ€ข Experience in scientific computing, quantum physics, or quantum computing
โ€ข Experience developing toolkits, compilers, or runtime environments for heterogenous architectures
โ€ข Experience with ahead-of-time and just-in-time compilation for quantum computing
โ€ข Experience with embedded systems, algorithms, and/or low-level control software for hardware a plus including optimizing interfaces to hardware systems
โ€ข Experience with multi-threaded programming, execution, and HPC architectures
โ€ข Experience with meta programming languages
