The Service Transformation and Deployment Automation team aims to remove all manual touchpoints from service operations within Amazon Web Services (AWS) Networking, one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. Software Development Engineers are instrumental in discovering innovative ways to automate and scale services. They drive stability, consistency, and sustainability of the network while never losing sight of the high security bar our customer’s demand. We own a container compute platform in the border network, network device access and locality software, and a business intelligence platform for providing insights into service maturity. This position is located in Minneapolis, USA and working in the heart of AWS global network.

Millions of customers rely on Amazon’s network for using our retail websites, accessing content on their Kindles, and building applications and businesses on top of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. Engineers in the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization have a wide range of responsibilities; we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next‑generation platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blueprint allowing our engineers to develop solutions to complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers during events.
