What is a senior simulation engineer?

Senior Simulation Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and analyze complex simulations to model real-world systems and processes. They use advanced software tools and mathematical models to predict performance, identify potential issues, and optimize designs in fields such as aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, and energy. Their work helps organizations make informed decisions and improve product reliability and efficiency. Senior Simulation Engineers often lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional groups to ensure the effective implementation of simulation solutions.

What are the typical collaboration points between a senior simulation engineer and other engineering teams?

As a Senior Simulation Engineer, you will frequently collaborate with cross-functional teams such as design, development, and testing to ensure simulation models accurately reflect real-world conditions. This often involves attending design reviews, sharing simulation results, and providing feedback to optimize product performance. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as your insights directly influence design decisions and help troubleshoot issues early in the development cycle. Regular meetings and shared documentation platforms are commonly used to keep everyone aligned and informed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior simulation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, mathematics, and physics, typically with a relevant bachelor's or master's degree. Proficiency in simulation software such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, or similar tools, along with experience in programming languages like Python or C++, is essential. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and interpreting complex data. These competencies ensure accurate modeling, effective project delivery, and innovation in designing and optimizing engineering systems.

What is the difference between Senior Simulation Engineer vs Simulation Engineer?

AspectSenior Simulation EngineerSimulation Engineer

Re-posted yesterday

Job description

Exowatt is revolutionizing the energy landscape for the AI era with our groundbreaking P3 system that captures solar energy, stores it as heat, and generates electricity on demand. Founded in 2023 and backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sam Altman, and Felicis, we're committed to providing clean, modular, and scalable power that meets the rapidly growing demands of AI infrastructure. Our mission is to make sustainable renewable energy always available and almost free, enabling technological advancement while protecting our planet.

We're looking for an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design and development of the electrical systems that make our technology work - from power conversion and controls to instrumentation and grid interconnection. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on technical execution. You'll own discrete electrical designs and sub-systems, work closely with senior engineers on broader architecture decisions, and partner across mechanical, controls, and systems teams to bring our product to life.

This role is based at our headquarters in Miami, FL, but it could also be in our Austin, TX location. In either case, relocation is required, and relocation assistance will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical components and sub-systems for thermal battery and power dispatch applications

  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, and technical specifications under the guidance of senior engineers and system architects

  • Perform electrical analysis, simulation, and validation testing on assigned designs

  • Contribute to the design of power electronics, control circuits, instrumentation, and protection systems

  • Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teammates to integrate electrical designs into the broader product

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues during prototype builds, bench testing, and field deployments

  • Evaluate components and vendor technologies; make recommendations on part selection

  • Ensure designs meet applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal performance targets

  • Document designs, test procedures, and technical findings clearly

  • Support prototype builds, bring-up, and field testing activities

  • Keep current on developments in power electronics, grid integration, and renewable energy systems

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience, ideally with exposure to power systems or power electronics

  • Working knowledge of power electronics, circuit design, and control systems

  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (Altium, EAGLE, KiCad, or similar)

  • Familiarity with simulation tools (SPICE, MATLAB, or similar)

  • Understanding of relevant standards (NEC, UL, IEC, IEEE)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Clear technical documentation and communication

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-voltage or high-power electrical systems

  • Exposure to renewable energy applications (solar inverters, BMS, grid interconnection)

  • Hands-on prototype and field-testing experience

What We Offer:
Competitive salary and equity options.
Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and retirement plans.
A dynamic work environment that fosters creativity and innovation.
Opportunities for professional growth and development in a rapidly evolving industry.
Relocation assistance.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
