Job description

Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Senior Structural Engineer in either our Essex, Connecticut, Falmouth, Maine, or Pittsfield, Maine offices to manage people, projects, and client relationships, and to perform technical design for hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects. Our flexibility and core value of relationships allows us to offer employees the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment.

Salary: $112,000 to $170,000/year (based on experience)

Who You Are

A licensed Professional Engineer with a BS in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 10 years' experience in structural engineering. Experience with hydroelectric design projects and fisheries related or water resource projects is a plus. Specialty experience within the structural engineering discipline, such as seismic design or finite element modeling, is also a plus.

Knowledgeable: Knowledge of standards and codes applicable to the structural engineering discipline is required. Experience with analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in and around water, coordinating with hydrology/hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical engineers, and structural modeling software (MathCAD, RISA-3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, Revit). The candidate should have experience working in the field with clients and contractors during planning and construction of projects. The candidate will also possess excellent problem-solving skills, oral and written communication skills to manage projects and clients. Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes is a plus.

Project Manager or Technical Lead: The candidate will have experience managing project teams that include junior and senior-level staff, drafters, and project coordinators. The candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. This role may include overall project management and client coordination and/or technical leadership of internal teams across multiple disciplines.

Relationship-Focused: Passion for mentoring junior-level staff. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team while applying engineering skills from analysis and design through to construction. Ability to establish long-lasting relationships with clients to assist them in solving complex engineering work, demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team while applying engineering throughout the longevity of the project.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and able to acquire authorization to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license
