As a Level 4 Solutions Engineer, you are a tenured payments expert and a recognized thought leader within the organization. You occupy an advanced professional role at the heart of WEX's success, responsible for the most complex, high-stakes business opportunities. You serve as the "Technical Diplomat" bridging the gap between C-suite commercial strategy and deep-tier technical architecture. You are expected to navigate the organization proactively to design tailored, future-proof solutions for our most strategic partners while acting as a force multiplier for the broader Solutions team.

The Solutions Engineer is primarily responsible for:

  • Strategic Solution Governance: Defining the overarching strategic, operational, and technical blueprints for strategic opportunities; serving as the primary technical lead and custodian of end-to-end solution design.

  • Solution Architecture: Defining and implementing highly scalable solutions that drive significant profitable volume growth while streamlining operations across the entire payment ecosystem.

  • Strategic Technical Advisor: Serving as the lead functional and technical expert during sales engagements, providing deep-dive expertise on APIs, SOAP, REST, AWS, and advanced integration protocols.

  • Product Ecosystem Influence: Driving the product roadmap from design to GA launch; identifying critical market gaps and influencing go-to-market strategies based on deep competitive analysis of the B2B landscape.

  • Revenue & Portfolio Optimization: Supporting vertical leads in analyzing market statistics, competitive landscape and customer requirements to identify portfolio opportunities that aggressively expand market share.

  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Leading high-visibility initiatives across Commercial, Operations, Risk, and Development to execute complex platform migrations and new product rollouts.

  • Mentorship & Thought Leadership: Acting as an extension of the Solutions team leadership, making critical decisions in their absence and mentoring Level 1-3 engineers on advanced technical integrations.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Must have an expert understanding of Physical/Virtual Card, Supplier payment models, and Mobile Payments applications.

  • Advanced Technical Foundation: Expert-level knowledge of modern payment connectivity, including API management, real-time Webhook integration, and the orchestration of complex data exchange protocols.

  • Financial Technology Specialization: Proven track record of bridging the gap between legacy core banking systems and modern payment rails. Expertise in digitizing complex B2B payment workflows and a deep understanding of the global clearing and settlement infrastructure used by leading Fintechs..

  • Consulting Excellence: A strong consulting background is required, with the ability to lead technical discovery sessions for Fortune 500-level prospects.

  • Full Lifecycle Mastery: Expert knowledge of the card transaction life cycle, including clearing, settlement, and interchange mechanics.

  • Proficiency with personal and project productivity tools, including Google Suite, Salesforce, and modern architectural diagramming tools.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
