Job description

Senior Engineer I, Software Engineering - Factory Automationย 
As part of ASM's Software Engineering team, you'll develop advanced control software that drives the most sophisticated semiconductor equipment in the world. Your work will directly impact robotics, gas flow systems, and temperature control hardware-delivering real-time results in chip manufacturing. Based in Phoenix, you'll collaborate globally and help shape the future of semiconductor automation and factory integration.

What you will be working on:

  • Design and develop factory automation features on the equipment side, including:
    • Remote command execution
    • Host-driven FOUP handling and workflow integration
    • Recipe management from host systems
    • Factory Automation (FA) ID management
  • Build and enhance supervisor-layer software infrastructure, working closely with GUI and device control teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to factory automation and system integration, both during development and in production environments
  • Collaborate with customer station controller teams to ensure seamless host-to-equipment communication
  • Support feature validation and testing (e.g., DLab) and participate in on-tool debugging and issue resolution when needed

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Strong programming experience in C#
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience in the semiconductor or manufacturing automation industry
  • Hands-on experience with factory automation systems and equipment integration
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as:
    • SECS/GEM
    • GEM300
    • EDA / Interface A
  • Experience working with Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS)
  • Experience with modern communication frameworks such as gRPC
