Job description

Senior Risk Associate

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) Loss Data team is a dedicated and dynamic team of risk professionals responsible for collection, analysis, and reporting of operational loss data for the Company. Operational loss data is collected from across the Company and housed in the centralized Risk Data Warehouse. This is data used to report risk metrics and other insights to the Company's senior leadership team and is provided to modelers for use in their loss forecasting. This data is also reported externally to the Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

We are seeking an inquisitive and organized team player to join us as Senior Risk Associate. As part of the team, this associate will have the unique opportunity to become a subject matter expert in loss data, our data warehouse and infrastructure, and the controls of our well-managed process.

Day-to-day, this associate will work with stakeholders, partners in Product and Tech, as well as teams representing source data providers to support enhancements to the dataset and ensure we have a strong data management environment. The associate will leverage their analytical skills and subject matter expertise to help validate data enhancements and effectively apply teamwork, organization, and results oriented skills to support driving efforts to closure. Additionally, the associate will support the data management activities for the team's key datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Write and run SQL scripts to research data to support enhancements and validate results, as well as ad hoc requests

  • Convey complex ideas and data analysis through written and verbal communication confidently to various stakeholders

  • Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure delivery of commitments

  • Track progress of tasks and milestones, and report on status for projects and enhancements; ensure supporting artifacts are well documented and of high quality

  • Be intellectually curious to question the obvious, explore options, and seek efficiencies and improvements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • At least 2 years experience in Compliance Management, Risk Management, or Project Management

  • At least 2 years of experience with GSuite and Microsoft Office

  • At least 1 year of experience in SQL Querying or Python Querying

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in the financial industry

  • Experience with Snowflake and Databricks

  • Experience with JIRA or other Agile visual management tools

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $96,500 - $110,100 for Sr. Risk Associate


Richmond, VA: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr. Risk Associate










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
