DDS is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) to serve as the electrical technical lead for gas distribution facility projects and complex RNG/LNG facility projects. This role will lead PE review of EI&C deliverables, provide electrical engineering judgment and design oversight across multidisciplinary projects, and serve as DDSs client-facing electrical subject matter expert. The ideal candidate will bring strong electrical power and facility design capability, complement our instrumentation and controls expertise, and be comfortable supporting projects from design development through to construction.

This is first and foremost a technical leadership role. The successful candidate will be expected to lead electrical quality and review efforts, produce electrical calculations, support development of sound electrical designs, and participate directly in client and project team discussions. The ability to contribute directly to drawing development and AutoCAD-based production is highly valued, but is considered a secondary duty rather than the primary purpose of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead PE review and technical oversight of electrical, instrumentation, and controls deliverables for gas distribution facilities, regulator and gate stations, M&R facilities, and complex RNG/LNG and related energy facility projects.
  • Serve as DDSs electrical SME on client-facing calls, design reviews, multidisciplinary coordination meetings, and project execution discussions. Help clients and internal teams work through electrical scope, design decisions, code application, constructability, and technical risk.
  • Provide technical direction to engineers and designers developing electrical packages including one-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit one-lines, cable and conduit schedules, grounding and bonding plans, lighting plans, hazardous area details, heat trace details, utility power coordination, and associated electrical documentation.
  • Prepare and review electrical calculations and engineering analyses, including load calculations, voltage drop, short circuit support, feeder and equipment sizing, grounding and bonding, and related electrical design evaluations.
  • Support electrical design development in a meaningful and practical way, particularly on projects requiring experienced engineering judgment related to power distribution, facility electrical systems, hazardous area applications, equipment integration, and overall constructability.
  • Coordinate closely with DDSs multidisciplinary project team members and project management staff.
  • Support occasional cathodic protection-related electrical or power coordination scope as needed. This is expected to be a minor but relevant part of the role.
  • Participate in field walks, site verification, construction support, and troubleshooting as needed to help projects move efficiently from design into execution.
  • Mentor junior staff, support quality improvement within the electrical team, and help establish consistent design, review, and checking practices.
  • Where appropriate, support development of drawings, details, and plan packages using AutoCAD or similar tools, particularly when senior judgment is needed to move design production forward. This is a preferred secondary capability, not the primary focus of the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer license required. Licensure in any U.S. state is acceptable, with willingness and ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
  • Typically 10+ years of relevant experience in utility, industrial, energy, process, or related facility electrical engineering roles. Candidates with deeper experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical review and quality oversight of electrical deliverables.
  • Strong experience with electrical system design for utility or industrial facilities, including power distribution, panel schedules, one-lines, grounding, hazardous area considerations, and field-integrated design packages.
  • Ability to produce and review electrical calculations and apply sound engineering judgment to real project conditions.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to represent DDS effectively in client-facing discussions and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70, grounding and hazardous area requirements, and owner or utility standards.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with natural gas facilities, gas distribution infrastructure, regulator or gate stations, M&R facilities, RNG, LNG, or other industrial/process energy projects.
  • Experience reviewing and supporting EI&C packages in coordination with controls and instrumentation personnel.
  • Experience functioning as a client-facing electrical SME.
  • Meaningful AutoCAD capability and willingness to support drawing or plan production when needed.
  • Experience with field support, constructability review, and construction-phase issue resolution.
  • Exposure to cathodic protection power, controls, or related coordination is a plus, though not expected to be a major portion of the role.
  • Strong practical knowledge of NEC as applied to industrial, utility, and process facility electrical design.
  • Experience with MCCs, motor control, VFD applications, CT and VT cabinets, and other higher-complexity facility electrical systems commonly encountered on larger projects.
  • Experience supporting or reviewing specialized electrical studies and analyses such as arc flash, short circuit, protective device coordination, equipment interrupting rating verification, AC mitigation studies, grounding studies, or related advanced electrical evaluations.
  • Ability to define when specialty studies are required, coordinate with internal or external specialty resources as needed, and incorporate study results into the overall design basis and construction package.

Location

  • This role may be based remotely, though preferred office locations include Rochester, NY; Southborough, MA; Canonsburg, PA; Mount Prospect, IL; and Jacksonville, FL.
