Job description

Overview
The Senior Risk Analyst II - Finance Oversight is a strategic contributor within the second line of defense, supporting the Finance & Regulatory Reporting Oversight ("FRRO") team, responsible for oversight activities primarily related to capital management, planning and forecasting, capital interpretations, and capital calculations.
Position partners directly with first-line teams to assess adequacy of risk controls and compliance with regulatory standards.
Position is pivotal in driving continuous improvement in risk oversight effectiveness for FRRO.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and lead comprehensive reviews of risk governance and reporting across the FRRO domain.
  • Conduct independent analysis of regulatory interpretations, model outputs, and capital/treasury assumptions.
  • Represent the Second Line of Defense in stakeholder meetings.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to second-line review plans, issue escalation protocols, and review standards.
  • Contribute to team training and development initiatives.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope
  • High level of autonomy and accountability for oversight conclusions of FRRO subjects (capital planning forecasting, capital calculations, financial performance metrics).
  • The Senior Risk Analyst II must be adept at working across all levels of the organization from junior staff to the senior/executive members of management primarily in Risk and Finance.
  • This is a high-profile position where the incumbent must be comfortable working with minimal/moderate oversight under tight deadlines.

Supervisory/Managerial
May lead or formally mentor junior staff; potential to serve as team lead on select engagements.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative or analytical field such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics and a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and at least nine years of relevant professional experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance issues related to the banking industry.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical abilities.

Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Master's degree, CPA, CFA preferred.
