What is a Senior RFIC Design Engineer?

A Senior RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) Design Engineer is an experienced professional who designs, develops, and tests high-frequency integrated circuits used in wireless communication devices. They work extensively with analog and mixed-signal circuits, and are responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of RFICs for applications such as mobile phones, Wi-Fi, and IoT devices. In addition to technical design tasks, Senior RFIC Design Engineers often mentor junior engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the overall architecture of wireless systems.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior RFIC Design Engineers during the chip design and validation process?

Senior RFIC Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as meeting stringent performance specifications within tight power and area constraints, managing electromagnetic interference, and ensuring the design complies with fabrication process limitations. Additionally, integrating RF circuits with digital and analog components on the same chip can introduce complex noise coupling issues that must be mitigated through careful layout and simulation. Close collaboration with layout engineers, validation teams, and system architects is essential to address these challenges and to deliver robust, manufacturable designs on schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior RFIC Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior RFIC Design Engineer, you need deep expertise in RF circuit theory, semiconductor physics, and hands-on experience with analog/mixed-signal IC design, usually backed by a master's or PhD in electrical engineering. Mastery of industry-standard EDA tools (such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, and EM simulators) and familiarity with relevant process design kits (PDKs) and lab measurement equipment is essential. Strong analytical thinking, teamwork, and effective communication set outstanding engineers apart. These skills ensure the development of high-performance, reliable RFICs through efficient problem-solving, collaboration, and precise execution in a fast-evolving field.

What is the difference between Senior Rfic Design Engineer vs RFIC Design Engineer?

AspectSenior Rfic Design EngineerRFIC Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialized in RFIC designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, with RF focus
Work EnvironmentDesign teams, R&D labs, semiconductor companiesDesign teams, semiconductor firms, integrated circuit companies
Industry UsageUsed in advanced wireless, telecom, and satellite systemsUsed in wireless communication, mobile devices, and RF components

The main difference is that a Senior Rfic Design Engineer typically has more experience and leadership responsibilities in RFIC design projects, whereas an RFIC Design Engineer may be earlier in their career or at a non-senior level. Both roles focus on RF integrated circuit design but differ in seniority and scope of responsibilities.

Job description

Join Our Relentless Pursuit of Excellence
At Singer Vehicle Design, we believe Everything is Important. That's why every nut, bolt, stitch, and finish matters when we restore and reimagine Porsche 911s into some of the most beautiful and respected cars in the world.
Our work blends iconic design with modern engineering, lightweight materials, and obsessive attention to detail. Every component matters-and every engineer plays a critical role in delivering excellence.
We're looking for a Senior Design Engineer, Body to bring their passion, precision, and problem-solving skills to our team in Torrance, CA. If you share our passion for beautiful cars, thrive on details, and want to be part of something extraordinary, this is your chance.
Why You'll Love This Role:
  • You will design, release, and implement new parts and assemblies with supporting documentation to improve existing products in a manner that demonstrates, "Everything is Important."
  • You'll be responsible for understanding requirements for new components or systems, designing to those requirements, and bringing those parts to production. This includes extensive work with carbon-fiber body panels and composite structures, which are core to Singer's reimagined Porsche 911 programs.

What You'll Do:
  • Conceptualize and create mechanical designs using CATIA V5 for new products used in late-model air-cooled Porsches
  • Understand and design around packaging environment, mounting strategy, and load conditions of automotive components and systems, even with limited information
  • Design, release, and validate carbon-fiber composite body panels, aerodynamic elements, and structural components, ensuring optimal stiffness, weight reduction, manufacturability, and fit within Singer's carbon-intensive vehicle architecture
  • Collaborate with composite suppliers on layup strategy, tooling, curing processes, and quality requirements for carbon-fiber components
  • Plan and execute part evaluations on vehicle, and component or system validation plans-including testing specific to composite behavior, bonding, and fastener interfaces
  • Interface with and manage suppliers to execute project deliverables
  • Collaborate with global Design and Production Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production teams
  • Plan, execute, and initiate process improvement (such as Lean or Six Sigma)
  • Evaluate existing drawings and 3D models of assemblies and processes
  • Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs
  • Create working prototypes for first-article fit and function testing
  • Review and approve 3D models and 2D drawings and specifications created by junior engineers
  • Complete documentation to track project development and design process
  • Ensure projects are on time and within budget
  • Identify indicators for improvement and cost-reduction opportunities
  • Create product introduction materials: work instructions, exploded-view parts manuals, etc.

Who We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasis
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical design & drafting experience using CATIA CAD software
  • Experience in automotive industry
  • Experience in engineering development process and design and release of components and systems
  • Hands-on experience applying GD&T fundamentals and performing tolerance stack-ups for complex assemblies
  • Some basic knowledge of carbon-fiber composite components. We are not looking for a carbon-fiber industry expert, this is an excellent opportunity to gain significant exposure and experience

Bonus Points If you Have:
  • Master's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasis
  • Experience and capabilities with surface modeling
  • Experience with data management systems
  • Knowledge of air-cooled and turbo Porsche vehicles a plus
  • Expertise in carbon-fiber composite components, including familiarity with layup methods, tooling, curing processes, and structural behavior of composite materials

Location & Schedule:
This is a salaried, exempt position onsite in Torrance, CA. The core hours are Monday - Friday 7:30am-4pm.
