What are Senior Reverse Engineers?

Senior Reverse Engineers are experienced professionals who analyze software, hardware, or systems to understand their design, functionality, and vulnerabilities. They often work to deconstruct compiled code or firmware to identify security flaws, ensure software compliance, or aid in malware analysis. Their expertise is crucial in cybersecurity, forensics, and software interoperability, as they help organizations protect against threats and improve system resilience. Senior Reverse Engineers typically have advanced knowledge of programming languages, debugging tools, and operating systems. They may also lead teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to strategic security initiatives.

What is the difference between Senior Reverse Engineer vs Malware Analyst?

AspectSenior Reverse EngineerMalware Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science, cybersecurity certifications (e.g., GREM, OSCP)Bachelor's in Cybersecurity, malware analysis certifications (e.g., GREM, GIAC)
Work EnvironmentSecurity firms, tech companies, government agenciesSecurity firms, government agencies, incident response teams
Industry UsageAnalyzing complex software, debugging, reverse engineering binariesDetecting, analyzing, and mitigating malware threats
Comparison FocusDeep reverse engineering skills, software analysisMalware detection and threat analysis

While both roles require cybersecurity expertise and reverse engineering skills, Senior Reverse Engineers focus on analyzing software at a code level, often working on complex binaries and software vulnerabilities. Malware Analysts specialize in identifying and understanding malicious code to mitigate threats. Both roles are vital in cybersecurity but differ in their primary focus and daily tasks.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior Reverse Engineers when analyzing complex software?

Senior Reverse Engineers often encounter challenges such as heavily obfuscated or packed binaries, lack of documentation, and anti-reverse engineering techniques implemented by developers. These obstacles require deep knowledge of assembly language, debugging tools, and creative problem-solving skills. Collaboration with other security professionals, such as malware analysts or incident responders, is also common to share insights and overcome particularly difficult cases. Staying up-to-date with evolving software protection methods is essential for continued success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Reverse Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Reverse Engineer, you need deep expertise in software analysis, assembly language, malware analysis, and computer architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Proficiency with tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, OllyDbg, and experience with debuggers and disassemblers are typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills that set top performers apart. These skills and tools are vital for dissecting complex software, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing effective security solutions.

Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then youโ€™ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service deliveryย associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

Weโ€™re intentional, weโ€™re unapologetically curious and weโ€™re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

We are seeking a mid-level Materials & Process Engineer focused on manufacturing complex parts made from polymers and composites that push the boundaries of what's possible. This role centers on solving challenging part production problems by designing and building whatever equipment and process necessary to make build ultra-lightweight and load carrying structures. This role will be located in Saratoga, CA.
What you'll be doing:
  • Complex Part Engineeringย
  • Engineer solutions for producing parts with complex geometries, tight tolerances, and demanding specifications.ย
  • Solve process design challenges for parts with undercuts, variable wall thickness, multi-material construction, and precision features.ย
  • Develop approaches for parts that others consider unmanufacturable, with focus on volume production capability.ย
  • Work with advanced polymer and composite materials to create high-performance components for large-scale manufacturing.ย
ย
  • Problem-Solving Through Equipment Developmentย
  • Build whatever equipment is needed to make complex parts work - forming presses, custom tooling, specialized fixtures, and high-throughput processing equipmentย
  • Create SolidWorks models and detailed drawings with proper GD&T for tooling and equipment designed for high volume processes.ย
  • Machine, weld, and assemble custom solutions when off-the-shelf equipment won't suffice for production requirementsย
  • Prototype rapidly until parts meet specifications consistently and processes are ready for scale-upย
ย
  • Part Development & Manufacturing Solutionsย
  • Take on part challenges that require innovative manufacturing approaches capable of high-volume productionย
  • Design and build forming processes for complex brackets, housings, structural components, and precision assemblies with polymer and composite materialsย
  • Solve inserts, handling, and quality control challenges for difficult geometries in production environmentsย
  • Develop repeatable, high-volume processes for complex parts that can efficiently scale to large production runsย
ย
  • Hands-On Implementationย
  • Build and test whatever tools, fixtures, and equipment are needed to make parts work at production volumesย
  • Troubleshoot part quality issues and implement design solutions for volume manufacturingย
  • Work directly with prototype parts to understand manufacturing constraints and scale-up opportunities for polymer and composite componentsย
What you will bring to this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related technical fieldย
  • 3-6 year's experience solving complex part manufacturing challenges with focus on scalable processesย
  • Expert-level SolidWorks skills including advanced modeling, drawings, and GD&T applicationย
  • Experience with advanced materials and high-volume forming processes such as thermosets, thermoplastics, elastomers.ย
  • Hands-on fabrication skills: machining, welding, assembly, and creative problem-solvingย
  • Track record of solving challenging manufacturing problems while maintaining production viabilityย
Essential Skills:
  • Part-focused thinking: ability to reverse-engineer manufacturing solutions from part requirements with volume production in mindย
  • SolidWorks: advanced modeling for complex parts and custom tooling solutions designed for production scaleย
  • GD&T: proper application for complex parts with challenging tolerance requirements in volume manufacturingย
  • Creative problem-solving: building non-standard solutions for unique part challenges that work at scaleย
  • Hands-on fabrication: whatever skills are needed to make the solution work in productionย
  • Materials expertise: understanding polymer and composite material behavior in complex, high-volume forming applicationsย
  • Production scaling: experience transitioning prototype processes to efficient, large-volume manufacturingย
What Sets You Apart:
  • You see a complex part and immediately start thinking about how to make it efficiently at volumeย
  • You're not limited by existing equipment - you build what's needed to solve the problem for production scaleย
  • You thrive on part challenges that others walk away from, especially when volume production is requiredย
  • You understand that the equipment is just a tool to achieve the real goal: perfect parts at production quantitiesย
  • You can take a challenging part specification and deliver a working manufacturing solution ready for large-scale productionย
  • You think about scalability, cycle times, and production economics from day oneย
  • Collaborative environment with part designers, manufacturing teams, and production engineersย

ย
This role is ideal for an engineer who gets excited about impossible parts and has the skills to build whatever it takes to make them work at production volumes.ย
ย
We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and usedโ€”so weโ€™re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If thatโ€™s your experience โ€“ then weโ€™ll be immediately wow-ed.
