Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Scientist within the NYU Grossman School of Medicine's Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine, Research Division.

In this role, the selected candidate will serve as the lead scientist organizing research projects focused on the intersection of geriatrics, dementia, and emergency care. This Senior Research Scientist will work under the direction of Principal Investigator and Medical Director for Geriatric Emergency Medicine, Dr. Ula Hwang. She is the PI of the NIA-funded Geriatric Emergency care Applied Research (GEAR) Network and is currently the MPI of NIA-funded GEAR 2.0 Advancing Dementia Care and GEAR 1.1, Geriatric Emergency care Applied Research Network: Expanding and sustaining an emergency care aging study infrastructure. Among her GEAR initiatives is the creation of the GEAR Database, a cloud-based, multi-site research infrastructure supporting patient-centered data for evaluation of interventions and characteristics aimed at providing improved care for older adults in the Emergency Department (ED). The GEAR Database, while still expanding, currently comprises 12 health systems representing more than 63 EDs. Additional information about these studies is available in the NIH RePORTER.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept in quantitative data analysis, and have significant research experience. The Senior Research Scientist must be able to function proficiently and independently. The Senior Research Scientist should be able to work autonomously, while maintaining effective communication with the PI, Program Manager, data analysts, collaborators, and business partners. In addition to the studies described above, the Senior Research Scientist may also be asked to assist with other studies led by Dr. Hwang related to geriatric emergency medicine.

Job Responsibilities:

Understand the big picture and ensure completion of project activities on time and with fidelity to funders expectations.
Lead data acquisition and storage, including completing applicable data use agreements and ensuring compliance with funder requirements for data sharing. Assist with data quality monitoring.
Conduct data analyses ranging from data aggregation to complex modeling to interactive data visualization using various data sources. Review and interpret analytic requests with stakeholders including study team requesters, IT colleagues, data owners, and database collaborators.
Lead grant proposals, publications, reports, abstracts, and other dissemination products and attend meetings relevant to dissemination such as American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting, Alzheimer's Association International Conference.
Prepare reports on project deliverables and progress, including reports for the study sponsor, i.e., RPPR, FRPPR, monthly/quarterly reports detailing deliverables and related progress/challenges/obstacles.
Employ, evaluate and assist with the implementation of innovative solutions to maximize study recruitment and retention.
Assist with managing budgets for all funded projects, including tracking expenditures, and making budget recommendations that are needed to remain on or under budget for the budget period.
Help facilitate and develop agendas and materials for regular meetings with co-investigators, collaborators, and funders.
Serve as a resource and participate in study initiation and close out duties.
Assist with regulatory requirements including IRB protocols and submissions, DSSB submissions, facilitate grants/agreements and subawards in partnership with Grant Manager and Contracts Manager.
Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment and support team morale.
Create and maintain strong, positive relationships with study team members, participants, and partners at partner sites and military installations.
Communicate professionally and develop relationships with internal and external collaborators.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a PhD and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior research scientist or post-doctoral experience.
Prior experience writing and preparing grant proposals and manuscripts.
Prior experience developing research studies and methodologies, designing, maintaining, querying databases, performing analyses and data visualization, and collaborating with partners on research studies
Prior experience with program management.
Experience collaborating with diverse teams.
Graphic design and presentation skills.
Mentoring skills (of staff and students).
