Senior Systems & Controls Engineer / Embedded Vehicle Controls / Open to Remote / Oshkosh, WI

Our client is a leading manufacturer and developer of specialized vehicles and advanced mobility solutions. Based out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, they are looking to hire a Senior Systems & Controls Engineer on a contract basis.

This is an opportunity to work on technology that goes well beyond traditional embedded software development. You'll help develop safety-critical real-time control systems for unmanned and optionally manned ground vehicles, working at the intersection of embedded software, vehicle controls, autonomy, and model-based development. The team is looking for an engineer who wants hands-on experience taking MATLAB/Simulink-based controls from requirements and development through testing and real-world vehicle integration.

Contract Duration

  • 6+ months with potential extension and/or conversion to full-time employment based on business needs and performance

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline

  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • Model-based software development experience using MATLAB/Simulink

  • Experience developing software requirements

  • Experience writing and executing software unit tests

  • Embedded controller/software development experience using C/C++ and/or model-based development

  • Experience with version control systems

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Embedded vehicle controls experience using MATLAB/Simulink

  • Vehicle dynamics or control systems experience involving ABS, ESC, or similar technologies

  • Active safety or ADAS experience including AEB, forward collision warning, or related systems

  • 3+ years of safety-critical software development experience

  • Experience with CAN Bus, Ethernet, or V2V communications

  • Knowledge of SysML, Cameo Systems Modeler, or MagicDraw

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or UL 4600

  • Experience with autonomous, unmanned, on-road, or off-highway vehicle systems

  • Agile software development experience

Daily Responsibilities

  • Develop and peer review safety-critical controls software for unmanned and optionally manned ground vehicles

  • Develop, analyze, and maintain software requirements and system architecture models

  • Write and execute software unit tests

  • Conduct software and integration testing in simulation and real-world environments

  • Analyze test data, investigate failures, and recommend technical solutions

  • Support software configuration management and source code control

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and customers

  • Support customer and supplier testing, including occasional travel

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, presentations, estimates, and feasibility studies

  • Support multiple development activities within larger vehicle programs
