Job description

Senior/Principal React Engineer – Front-End Modernization

Job details

Hekima is a collaborative network of elite professionals established by IT veterans.  Our goal is to bridge the gap between having a good job and a great career by providing opportunities that will help develop and refine the skills of the IT professionals within our network.  We are actively seeking a Senior/Principal React Engineer – Front-End Modernization who will exemplify Hekima’s culture and mission.

About the company

At Hekima, we are guided by the conviction that the true measure of a company’s stature is not found in its name, but in its people. Our founders, seasoned IT executives and industry architects, bring a wealth of experience in delivering innovative solutions to leading corporations and government entities. This expertise forms the cornerstone of Hekima—a company dedicated to achieving excellence through investing in people.

We noticed a disconnect in the traditional service model—talent was often undervalued and seen as interchangeable. This mindset not only stifles individual growth but also hampers organizational success. Driven by our firsthand experiences, we set out to challenge this perspective, with a belief that appreciating and developing talent is not just beneficial but crucial for enduring success.

Our team comprises seasoned IT professionals committed to delivering superior service and thoroughly vetted, skilled experts. We grasp the essentials of success in this industry, focusing on recruiting and training talent, as well as fostering meaningful relationships with our candidates and clients. By prioritizing a personal approach, we aim to understand individual and organizational needs, ensuring we align our services with their career and IT objectives.

Overview

We are rebuilding our customer-facing applications from the ground up. Today, our applications are primarily built with a legacy Spring Boot + Thymeleaf architecture. Our goal is to evolve to a modern, scalable front-end platform that separates the user experience from backend services and embraces modern DevSecOps practices.

We're looking for an experienced React engineer who can help lead this transformation. This is not a maintenance role—it is an opportunity to define the architecture, engineering standards, and development practices that will power our next generation of applications.

You'll work closely with architects, backend engineers, DevOps, security, and product teams to build fast, secure, maintainable web applications while establishing best practices across the organization.

Skills and Expertise

  • Core Technologies
  • React (v17+), React Hooks, Context API, Redux / Zustand / Recoil
  • TypeScript (strong typing, generics, utility types)
  • JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3 / SCSS / CSS Modules
  • REST APIs and GraphQL integration
  • Architecture & Engineering
  • Component-driven development and design systems
  • Micro-frontend architecture patterns
  • Performance optimization (lazy loading, code splitting, memoization)
  • State management patterns and scalable data flow
  • Monorepo tooling (Nx, Turborepo) and module federation
  • Tooling & Ecosystem
  • Webpack, Vite, Babel, ESLint, Prettier
  • Testing: Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright
  • CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Docker basics
  • Storybook for component documentation
  • Soft Skills
  • Technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration
  • Mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Ownership mindset and strong problem-solving approach

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of modern customer-facing web applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Help define the future front-end architecture, including component libraries, state management, routing, authentication, and API integration patterns.
  • Modernize legacy applications by migrating from server-rendered Spring Boot/Thymeleaf applications to a decoupled front-end architecture.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to build clean REST and GraphQL APIs that support modern web experiences.
  • Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, accessibility, performance, and security.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for front-end applications within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Integrate automated testing, static analysis, dependency scanning, and security validation into the development lifecycle.
  • Champion reusable UI components, shared design systems, and consistent engineering practices across applications.
  • Mentor engineers and help grow modern front-end development capabilities across the team.
  • Evaluate emerging front-end technologies and recommend solutions that improve developer productivity and user experience.

Qualifications

  • Required
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years building production applications with React.
  • Deep expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of modern front-end architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience with state management solutions such as Redux, Zustand, or React Query/TanStack Query.
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility (WCAG), and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Experience with automated testing using Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native deployments and containerized applications.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices and DevSecOps principles.
  • Experience working in Agile product teams.

Preferred

  • Help define the future front-end architecture, including component libraries, state management, routing, authentication, and API integration patterns.
  • Modernize legacy applications by migrating from server-rendered Spring Boot/Thymeleaf applications to a decoupled front-end architecture.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to build clean REST and GraphQL APIs that support modern web experiences.
  • Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, accessibility, performance, and security.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for front-end applications within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Integrate automated testing, static analysis, dependency scanning, and security validation into the development lifecycle.
  • Champion reusable UI components, shared design systems, and consistent engineering practices across applications.
