Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Growth, the Senior Manager of Strategy & Innovation is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping product and portfolio strategy, translating market and consumer insights into compelling innovation concepts, and driving new products from ideation through stage gate to launch. This role serves as a critical strategic partner to the CEO and VP of Growth, with direct involvement in building and advancing the company’s 5-year growth roadmap—spanning innovation, portfolio mix optimization, and other key strategic pillars.

This role demands exceptional cross-functional leadership, serving as the strategic hub connecting R&D, Marketing, Operations, and Finance. The Senior Manager leads cross-functional project teams, drives stage gate reviews, and maintains sharp executive visibility into the full innovation pipeline—spanning new product development, renovation, and cost savings initiatives.

Success requires deep fluency in end-to-end product development, the strategic judgment to tailor approaches to brand and business context, and the leadership presence to unite diverse teams around a shared vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and VP of Growth. This will include co-developing, refining, and activating the 5-year growth roadmap across innovation, portfolio mix, and other strategic pillars.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment across strategy and innovation workstreams, while driving cross-functional alignment and accountability against innovation objectives, strategic priorities, and commercialization timelines.
  • Own and continuously evolve the Stage Gate process. The Senior Manager will lead submissions, drive gate reviews, and ensure every NPD and operational initiative is strategically aligned and commercially sound.
  • Champion organizational capability by leading cross-functional training on innovation processes, pipeline tools, and stage gate best practices.
  • Set clear direction and accountability across project team to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and are prioritized against the highest-value business goals.
  • Proactively surface risks, frame trade-offs with clarity, and make decisive calls that keep projects on schedule and strategy on course.
  • Continuously evaluate and strengthen innovation and growth processes to drive improvements in speed, quality, and cross-functional effectiveness.
  • Apply rigorous analytical thinking to identify, size, and sequence growth opportunities and risks across the innovation portfolio, taking data to insight to action.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and activate renovation and cost optimization opportunities that strengthen margin without compromising brand equity.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Food Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading end-to-end innovation, from consumer insight and ideation through stage gate to commercial launch. Ideal candidate will have lead this innovation in a CPG company, both large and small/emerging.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional project teams of varying scale and complexity from kickoff through completion.
  • 5+ years of progressive CPG experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives, with comfort operating in both high-growth emerging and scaled organizational environments.
  • Deep cross-functional experience partnering with R&D, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to design and deliver integrated innovation programs.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail, paired with executive-ready communication and project management capabilities.
  • Confident, compelling presenter with a track record of influencing and aligning senior leadership and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Proactively identifies issues before they escalate, navigates ambiguity with confidence, and mobilizes teams around creative, high-impact solutions.
