Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI Technologies is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our growing Building Structures practice in Albany, NY. This role is ideal for a motivated structural engineer who wants to take ownership of projects, mentor emerging talent, and contribute to the growth of a high-performing regional team.

You'll work on a diverse portfolio of building and building-related structures across the country to support active projects the NE Region and beyond while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, client-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead structural design and analysis for a variety of new building projects, including steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
  • Perform condition assessments, investigations, and develop rehabilitation solutions for existing buildings.
  • Serve as a project engineer and task lead, managing scope, schedule, and budget for structural deliverables.
  • Develop and oversee construction document production using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Perform and oversee QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy and code compliance for calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Participate in client meetings, proposals, and business development efforts.
  • Support projects through construction administration, including site visits and field observations.
  • Plan workloads and manage structural task budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain and build strong client relationships.

Specialized Experience Required:

  • Experience with structural design, field investigations, and client coordination.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and structural design software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam/Adobe.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and deliver quality results on time.
  • Working knowledge of building and design codes.

Specialized Experience Preferred: 

  • Interest in mentoring and team development
  • NCEES registration and ability to obtain licensure in other states.
  • Proficient in RISA, RAM, or similar structural design software.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering, including fieldwork and client interaction (buildings-focused preferred).

Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects. Proven experience as a technical lead on projects, with a track record of successful project delivery. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred: Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
