The Senior Transportation Project Engineer will operate at a senior design engineering level, providing technical expertise on Parsons' projects across the study, planning, functional, preliminary, and detailed design phases of transportation infrastructure, as well as delivering engineering support during construction. The project focus may include complete streets, arterial roads, highways, pathways, cycling facilities, railways, rapid transit facilities, and other systems related to transportation. Projects may be municipal, provincial, federal, or private in nature, or delivered through alternative means. The candidate will be in a position to either manage projects and/or lead coordinate the planning & design portions of projects, and/or contribute to construction services assignments as a subject matter expert in civil engineering and/or infrastructure construction.

The candidate will carry out some or all of these responsibilities which may vary on a project by project basis:

  • Be informed of trends in transportation infrastructure and current and potential future consulting opportunities;

  • Lead the management of planning and design projects or the design of portions of projects;

  • Be on the vanguard for new clients and/or projects;

  • Manage or assist in the preparation of consulting team proposals;

  • Contribute discipline-specific portions to larger consulting team proposals, and lead the preparation of transportation design proposals;

  • Prepare project planning and design schedules and budgets;

  • Carry out studies of existing infrastructure or site conditions;

  • Lead the completion of transportation plans and studies;

  • Identify and evaluate alternative planning and engineering solutions to infrastructure challenges/opportunities;

  • Recommended preferred plans and designs and provide technical rationales;

  • Lead the preparation of functional, preliminary and detailed designs and construction cost estimates;

  • Manage construction implementation projects, and/or provide a contract administration role;

  • Provide engineering services during construction;

  • Manage or coordinate the work of other disciplines and firms and work within the Parsons team environment;

  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders, and lead or assist in the implementation of design processes, as required; and

  • Manage or assist in monitoring the financial performance of assignments.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Professional registration as an Engineer in Ontario is required.

  • Candidates must have experience managing transportation infrastructure projects with the relevant authorities in Ontario, including the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), municipalities, and other applicable regulatory agencies.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

The incumbent will have the opportunity, in the fullness of time, to meet Parsons' project management certification requirements. Proven ability to perform in a management capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, ability to work with diverse stakeholders, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices, guidelines and regulations are also required.In addition, must be knowledgeable of current project management approaches and how they can be effectively utilized to deliver successful projects. Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required.
