Job description

The Director, Engineering Project Delivery Excellence & Proposals is responsible for the leadership, development, resource planning, and performance management of the Engineering Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Field Engineers supporting Power EPC projects.
The role serves as the organizational leader responsible for developing project execution talent, improving project delivery consistency, and ensuring project execution best practices are incorporated into all proposals and awarded projects.
The Director acts as the primary project execution advisor during proposal development and ensures lessons learned from field execution are reflected in future pursuits, project planning, staffing strategies, and execution methodologies.
The position can be in the Zachry Engineering Houston, Downers Grove or Charlotte Office.
 

Required:

  • 15+ years of engineering, project management, or project performance experience.
  • Experience in large engineering project proposal development
  • Experience  in delivering engineering for  large EPC projects.
  • BS in engineering from an ABET accredited school
  • MBA preferred

Preferred:

  • Power generation or utility industry experience.
  • Portfolio management experience.
  • Business intelligence and dashboard development experience.
  • Experience implementing AI or digital solutions within project organizations.

Strategic Resource Planning
    Own workforce planning for all Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Field Engineers.
    Maintain a forward-looking 12-24 month resource forecast aligned with business development, proposal, and project execution needs.
    Identify future staffing requirements, organizational capability gaps, and succession risks.
    Develop strategies to ensure adequate project leadership capacity for anticipated growth.
Project Assignment & Capability Alignment
    Lead assignment of Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Field Engineers to proposals and awarded projects.
    Evaluate project complexity, customer requirements, contract structure, execution strategy, and risk profile to determine appropriate staffing.
    Match personnel experience, technical expertise, leadership capability, and development readiness with project needs.
    Ensure critical projects are staffed with proven performers while creating developmental opportunities for emerging leaders.
    Balance resource utilization, workload, and career development objectives across the organization.
    Make staffing recommendations to the Sr. Director for high-visibility, strategic, or high-risk projects. Suggest high profile Project Engineers and Managers for EPC and Supply chain roles for broader Enterprise needs. 
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
    Partner with Human Resources and business leadership to identify and recruit top project delivery talent.
    Participate in recruiting strategy, candidate evaluation, interviewing, and selection of Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Field Engineers.
    Develop and maintain relationships with universities, industry organizations, and professional networks to strengthen the talent pipeline.
    Establish hiring profiles and competency requirements for project delivery positions.
    Ensure recruiting efforts support both immediate execution needs and long-term organizational growth.
Talent Development Responsibility
The Director will be accountable for developing the company's future project leadership pipeline by creating career paths across:

Proposal Responsibilities
The Director will ensure EPC  proposal teams have appropriate engineering leadership and direct oversight for engineering execution strategy, and process associated with Power EPC Proposals.  The Director will have accountability for the delivery of the Engineering portion of the EPC proposal and its integration with the overall EPC proposal.
The Director will interface and align with the Zachry EPC group (Construction, Supply Chain, Execution Planning) , proposal group and Commercial group to support the development and scope definition 
The Director will be engaged in Customer Presentations to present the technical aspects of opportunities.  The Director will be engaged with Business Development to identify and secure opportunities
The Director will leverage lessons learned from:
    Engineering execution
    Construction execution
    Startup and commissioning
    Field engineering performance
    Schedule recovery efforts
    Productivity data
    Safety observations
This creates a continuous feedback loop between project execution and future proposal development.
