The Senior Product Development Engineer at ITW Mechanical Fastening, a division of ITW, plays a key role in developing innovative fastening and anchoring solutions that improve contractor productivity and building quality. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and product development experience to transform customer needs into differentiated products. Working closely with Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, and customers, you will lead complex product development efforts from concept through commercialization, helping strengthen some of the industry's most trusted fastening brands while driving meaningful business growth.

What You Will Do

  • Design and develop innovative mechanical fastening and anchoring products that achieve performance, quality, manufacturability, cost, and timing objectives.
  • Apply analytical and practical engineering methods, including prototyping, design studies, testing, root cause analysis, risk assessment, and engineering evaluation techniques to solve complex technical challenges and advance new product concepts.
  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to translate market needs into engineering requirements and differentiated product solutions.
  • Develop and execute testing strategies, fixtures, and validation plans to ensure products meet performance expectations, regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Lead product development projects through ITW's New Product Development process, managing priorities, timelines, risks, and project execution from concept through launch.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to commercialize new products and continuously improve existing products through enhancements in performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost while sharing knowledge and providing guidance to less-experienced engineers.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in product development, design engineering, or new product innovation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical product design capability, including the application of metallurgy, strength of materials, and sound engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as cold heading, forging, rolling, stamping, heat treating, and plating, and the ability to incorporate manufacturability into product development decisions.
  • Experience leading product development projects and translating customer or market needs into engineering requirements; experience with mechanical fasteners, construction products, or certification standards such as ICC-ES, UL, or FM is preferred.

Additional Information

Work Environment

This position is based in our Glenview corporate office. However, the employee may be required to work in a variety of locations including, but not limited to: job/construction sites, test laboratories, and manufacturing facilities, and require certain personal protective equipment. These environments may not be controlled by ITW. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a construction and manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment (office) is usually low, but much higher when exposed to the job sites, test laboratories, and manufacturing facilities. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms and regularly required to walk. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 40 lbs., able to walk and stand for long periods of time at job site locations.

Compensation Information:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $102,500-$127,000, with final compensation determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
