What does a senior product data scientist do?

A Senior Product Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex data to help guide product decisions and strategy within a company. They work closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to identify key metrics, run experiments, and provide actionable insights that improve user experience and business outcomes. Their role often involves building predictive models, running A/B tests, and communicating findings to stakeholders. Senior Product Data Scientists also mentor junior team members and help establish best practices for data analysis across the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior product data scientist?

To thrive as a Senior Product Data Scientist, you need advanced skills in statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and a strong foundation in computer science or a related quantitative field, often supported by a master's or PhD. Job description

Overview
  • We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Business Strategy Data Science Team. This role is focused on growth across Intuit's consumer ecosystem of TurboTax and Credit Karma, with an emphasis on the data foundations and measurement that power our cross-product business model. This is a high-impact role where your work will directly influence product, marketing, and business model strategies.

  • As a Senior Data Scientist, you will own end-to-end delivery of the metrics, data products, and analyses that leaders across product, finance, and marketing rely on to understand and grow the ecosystem. You will design and productionize trusted cross-product data foundations, measure the incremental impact of ecosystem initiatives, and build AI-native analytics tooling that scales your insights across the organization. This is a unique opportunity to apply your passion for data and rigorous measurement to shape the future of financial empowerment for millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Ecosystem Measurement: Define, build, and productionize the core metrics of the consumer ecosystem (revenue, ARPC/ARPU, monthly active users, LTV, retention, and cross-product migration), ensuring alignment with company objectives and powering executive and corporate finance reporting.

  • Data Foundations: Design and ship certified, production-grade data products — including cross-product customer identity resolution — that serve as the endorsed source of truth for ecosystem analytics across data science, finance, and product teams.

  • Experimentation: Design, implement, and analyze A/B tests of cross-product initiatives, including custom cross-product outcome metrics and automated experiment reporting.

  • AI-Native Analytics: Build and maintain agentic analytics tooling (skills, plugins, and self-serve data access) that enables stakeholders and fellow data scientists to reliably answer ecosystem questions, and drive its adoption across the organization.

  • Data Stewardship: Handle regulated tax and cross-company data with rigor, ensuring data products and analyses respect privacy, consent, and compliance boundaries.

  • Communication: Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership, including product, finance, and marketing executives.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field is required. Advanced degrees are desirable.

  • At least 3 years of experience applying data science, statistical modeling, and analytics engineering skills to business decision making.

  • Expert proficiency in SQL and a programming language such as Python and/or R, including experience with large-scale distributed data platforms (e.g., Spark/Databricks, BigQuery) and production data pipeline and workflow tooling.

  • A demonstrated track record of designing, shipping, and maintaining production data products and business metrics adopted by finance and executive stakeholders.

  • Experience building with modern AI tooling — agentic workflows, LLM-based analytics tools, or similar — is strongly preferred.

  • A demonstrated ability to navigate through ambiguity and deliver results that significantly impact the business.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
