Responsibilities
Operating within the core values and operating principles of the organization, the Actuary may have wide range of responsibilities that may include but not be limited to valuation and reserving, asset liability modeling, economic capital modeling, cash flow testing, pricing & product develop, data analytics and data science, product management, underwriting and risk pricing.
This position will be expected to interact with all areas of the company and as a coach to less experienced actuaries in the company. They will be expected to assist in planning and organizing short- and long-term activities necessary to achieve established goals and is expected to stay current on the latest trends impacting life insurance and annuity business.
Pricing and Profitability:
  • Lead pricing analyses for life insurance products across multiple channels.
  • Evaluate profitability, capital efficiency, competitive position, and risk-return trade-offs.
  • Develop recommendations for pricing action, product redesign, or portfolio strategy.

Modeling and Analytics:
  • Build, maintain, and enhance pricing and financial projection models.
  • Improve model structure, controls, documentation, automation, and repeatability.
  • Use tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, VBA, ALFA, MG-ALFA, or similar platforms to improve efficiency and insight.

Assumptions and Risk:
  • Analyze mortality, lapse, expense, premium persistency, and distribution assumptions.
  • Assess sensitivity, scenario, and stress results to identify key profitability drivers.
  • Develop defensible recommendations for assumption updates and risk mitigation.

Product and Strategy:
  • Partner with Product Development, Distribution, Finance, Reinsurance, Compliance, and Valuation.
  • Evaluate new product opportunities, distribution strategies, allowable acquisition economics, and portfolio optimization options.
  • Translate complex actuarial analyses into practical business recommendations.

Regulation and Governance:
  • Support state filing work, actuarial memoranda, and regulatory responses.
  • Ensure pricing decisions are well documented, controlled, and defensible.
  • Contribute to pricing governance, model risk management, and audit-ready documentation standards.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance, annuities, or related financial services.
  • Strong understanding of insurance pricing fundamentals and financial projection concepts.
  • Experience building, validating, or improving actuarial models.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort working through ambiguous questions.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical analyses to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with life insurance product development, pricing, or reinsurance.
  • Familiarity with state insurance filings, actuarial memoranda, and regulatory constraints.
  • Experience presenting analysis and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, strengthen controls, and create scalable modeling frameworks.
  • Technical capability with Excel, SQL, Power BI, VBA, Slope, or similar tools.
