Job Description:

 

We are seeking an experienced Facilities, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and Material Handling (MH) equipment engineer/specialist for our Stennis Space Center location. This individual will primarily be responsible for verification, inventory, storage, shipment, servicing, inspecting, and repairing of powered and non-powered GSE to include hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting. It is essential this position is capable and has the knowledge to research, interpret, and apply industry, company, and regulatory requirements to facility, GSE, and MH equipment in support of assembly, testing and transportation of large liquid rocket engines and components.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance.
  • Serve as site liaison to program Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design team and provide engineering input during design phases to ensure maintainability and operational efficiency
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical recommendations for GSE improvements
  • Using modeling tool software, assess and optimize GSE performance and operational requirements
  • Collaborate with design engineers to incorporate operational and maintenance feedback into equipment specifications
  • Author Preventive Maintenance (PM), Corrective Maintenance (CM) and proof load work instructions
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) system(s) in tracking tasks, work instructions, inventory, PM, CM, and trending data of assigned equipment
  • Preform work to planning and schedules for preventive maintenance and repair assignments detailed work instructions
  • Oversee maintenance operations and mechanical functions of GSE and lifting devices
  • Research parts and material using government, military and commercial publications
  • Coordinate shipment of outgoing material with end users, etc.
  • Support real property maintenance, repairs, and other Facilities services at the Engine Assembly Facility utilizing various service providers
  • Oversee contractor activity in support of facility & equipment maintenance plans and projects to support various program initiatives
  • Less than 10% travel. 
  • Conduct Periodic inventory
  • Ability to obtain a NASA Personal Reliability Program (PRP) clearance

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Requires Ground Support Equipment (GSE) experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience including GSE design and development.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Hazmat inventory control regulations/warehousing
  • Certified Project Manager a plus
  • Self-starter who is capable of working toward established goals with minimal day to day direction
  • May perform limited budget and schedule responsibilities for projects
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license
  • Physical ability to lift 32 pounds
  • Experience with GSE design software (CAD, FEA, or similar engineering tools)
  • Knowledge of front-loading methodologies and Design for Maintainability (DFM) principles
  • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes and methodologies
  • Design for Test (DFT) knowledge to ensure GSE testability and verification requirements are incorporated early in the design phase
  • Design for Unit Cost (DFUC) experience to optimize equipment design for cost-effectiveness
  • Design for Supply Chain (DFSC) understanding to ensure parts availability, lead times, and vendor capabilities are considered in design decisions
  • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) expertise to create GSE designs that are efficient to produce and assemble
  • Knowledge of electrical & mechanical equipment such as high-pressure pneumatic, cryogenic, and hydraulic systems, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability in electrical, mechanical, and/or HVAC maintenance
  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance of Material Handling (MH) systems and Lifting
  • Devices and Equipment (LDE) maintenance, proof testing, and rigging
  • Working knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
