Job description

TX-HYB-Houston-16825 Northchase Dr, Houston, TX, US

Description

We are seeking a Senior Applications Support Developer to provide advanced production support for business-critical applications, integrations, and related services. This role requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, application support experience, analytical thinking, and the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex production issues.

This person will support both legacy Java applications and modern .NET-based applications and integrations. The role will initially require hands-on support and troubleshooting of the existing Java application while also supporting the organization’s .NET integrations. As the legacy application is migrated to a modern .NET platform, this person will support the transition and then provide production support for the modernized application.

The ideal candidate has strong experience supporting enterprise applications; working knowledge of .NET/C#; the aptitude to navigate an unfamiliar legacy Java codebase for production troubleshooting; strong SQL troubleshooting skills; experience analyzing application logs and API responses; release/deployment support experience; and clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Location: Houston, TX. Candidates must be able to come in to the office for meetings as needed - Must live in the Houston area.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 CST.

Key Responsibilities Production & Application Support
  • Provide advanced production support for business-critical applications, services, integrations, and scheduled processes.
  • Support both legacy Java applications and .NET-based applications and integrations.
  • Support the transition from the legacy Java application to the modern .NET application.
  • Monitor application health, jobs, integrations, and system activity to identify potential issues before they impact users.
  • Analyze application logs, database records, API responses, configuration, and system workflows to identify the source of problems.
  • Prioritize incidents based on business impact and drive timely resolution while maintaining ownership through closure.
  • Escalate appropriately and contribute to automation and tools that improve support efficiency.
Incident & Problem Management
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring and high-impact production issues.
  • Identify trends and recurring failures and recommend improvements to prevent future incidents.
  • Implement or coordinate permanent fixes rather than relying on temporary workarounds.
  • Document incidents, root causes, resolutions, and preventative actions.
  • Maintain knowledge articles, troubleshooting guides, and application support documentation.
  • Participate in incident reviews and continuous improvement of support processes.
Release & Deployment Support
  • Support application releases, deployments, and production changes.
  • Participate in release planning, validation, and post-deployment monitoring.
  • Work with development teams to troubleshoot deployment-related issues.
  • Maintain awareness of application dependencies and production environments.
Client & Business Communication
  • Work directly with business users and stakeholders to understand and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Communicate technical issues and resolutions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and external partners when issues involve third-party applications or integrations.
  • Provide clear status updates during production incidents, including professional email communications on incidents, resolutions, testing, and production activities.
  • Coordinate action items, dependencies, and follow-ups across support, development, infrastructure, and business teams.
Core Competencies
  • Strong production application support and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong ownership and follow-through on production incidents
  • Strong SQL and database troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of .NET applications, C#, and REST APIs
  • Ability to read and navigate unfamiliar legacy Java code, configs, and logs to isolate production issues
  • Strong understanding of integrations, application dependencies, HTTP, JSON, and XML
  • Ability to analyze logs, data, API responses, and system behavior
  • Clear written and verbal communication with clients, vendors, and business stakeholders
  • Focus on application reliability, stability, security, and maintainability
Position Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience in application support, application development, or a combination of both - with clear production-support ownership
  • Strong experience supporting production applications and troubleshooting complex issues (incidents, RCA, permanent fixes)
  • Working knowledge of .NET / .NET Core and C# required
  • Ability to independently learn and navigate an unfamiliar legacy Java codebase to troubleshoot production issues, even without extensive Java development experience
  • Strong SQL troubleshooting experience with MS SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB, or equivalent (queries, data investigation, and performance issues - not report-only use)
  • Experience troubleshooting RESTful APIs and third-party integrations
  • Strong understanding of HTTP, JSON, XML, and common integration patterns
  • Experience with Git and source code repositories
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD or application deployment / release processes
  • Experience working with development, infrastructure, database, vendor, and business teams
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients, external partners, or business stakeholders, including clear written status updates
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, EFS, SES, SNS
  • Experience with application monitoring and alerting tools
  • Experience with legacy Java applications, Spring MVC, Apache Struts, JSP
  • Understanding of Hibernate or similar ORMs
  • Experience with Apache/Tomcat server configurations and deployments
  • Working knowledge of Linux environments
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools
