Job description

The Maintenance Professional is a 40-hours per week benefit-eligible position that is scheduled in a manner that best supports the needs of a multi-building campus and community setting. The maintenance professional needs to have a strong customer service presence. The Maintenance Professional possesses the ability to work in a busy-high energy work environment. Their skills should be diverse and range from basic carpentry and mechanical skills to sheetrock finishing, a basic understanding of HVAC operations, and the ability to work on doors and windows. The ideal candidate will be able to participate in a snow removal operation (shoveling to plowing). Experience with operating a skid steer is highly desirable. The maintenance professional is organized, can prioritize the work at hand, is accountable, is patient, and is able to communicate effectively and professionally. They can function well in both team and independent conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility is to maintain and repair (as appropriate and consistent with the direction of department administration and executive leadership) the Agency owned and operated property and buildings.
  • The secondary responsibility is to support all programs (as appropriate and as defined by the department administrator with the maintenance-related functions within those programs (cleaning, delivering, installing, assisting).
  • Responding efficiently to the work orders that are submitted by the various departments and programs.

Department & Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist and Liaison with the Agency's contractors and contractor functions in the following areas: Fire Extinguishers Inspections, Sprinkler Inspections, Elevator Inspections, Smoke and Fire Equipment Inspections, HVAC Repair, Roof Access, Contracted Snow Removal (over 2-3 inches), Contracted Grounds up-keep, Generator Services and floor finishing.
  • Snow removal, sidewalk and roadway salting, and keeping emergency escapes/pathways clear.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED,
  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred
  • 5 years' experience in maintenance
  • 10 years of experience in a facilities/ maintenance related field preferred

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Carpentry knowledge and skill
  • Simple Plumbing (sinks, toilets, drains)
  • Basic electric skills (replacing light switches and all outlets)'
  • Ability to drive a pick-up truck and perform occasional snow plowing.

Essential Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to sit, squat, crouch and stand for elongated periods of time
  • Ability to lift arms over head in upward reaching motion.
  • Ability to walk up and downstairs up to several times per day.
  • Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, and on-call.
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance, free from major infractions and deemed acceptable to our insurance carrier.
  • Varying levels of travel as determined by departmental needs may be required with this position.
