Job description

Amazon's Global Tax Data team seeks a capable and motivated individual to optimize tax data delivery processes by developing simple standard data models to drive evolution in our data management products. Success in our initiatives will ultimately lower the operation cost to serve Tax Compliance and Controllership.
The right individual should have an ability to work with large datasets. They will also have solid business judgment that enables their development of business logic to transform data and meet the needs of Tax and Accounting.
Key job responsibilities
This role performs a wide variety of responsibilities for the Global Tax Data organization including:
- Perform hands on detailed data research and analysis of a large financial data set; investigate, troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues.
- Work with customer teams to identify improvements in efficiency and controllership for their current data processes
- Teach Tax Compliance and Data teams how to utilize the designed reporting and functionality in their processes.
- Build and maintain relationships with our key technology providers, as well as other technical teams across Amazon.
- Explain financial/technical concepts and analysis implications clearly to a wide audience, and be able to translate business objectives into actionable analyses.
- Define and maintain metrics to quantify the value of data standardization
- Get things done - drive implementation of their ideas!
A day in the life
You start the morning checking in with international operations and technology teams, reviewing data quality issues and data simplification roadmaps

By mid-morning, you're deep in source analysis - tracing a tax-reportable attribute back through multiple systems to identify which service originally produces the data and documenting the field-level mapping for the team that will build the integration.
After lunch, you join a working session with an upstream engineering team to resolve a sourcing ambiguity you flagged last week. You document the outcome and update the controllership tracker.
Later in the day, you're translating your findings into business requirements for the technical team that builds our tax data platform. You're not writing code, but you need to understand the data well enough to define what "correct" looks like for a given field.
Your internal stakeholders span Tax Compliance teams who consume the data for filings, technology teams who build the pipelines, and upstream service owners who produce the source data

Your customers are the Tax and Accounting professionals who need to trust every number in a compliance report.
About the team
We operate in a fast growing Tax Data space, so we're looking for candidates who are eager and able to learn new content quickly, who are willing to go into unfamiliar territory, and who possess ironclad judgment and integrity around confidential information.
