Position Summary
The Senior/Lead Process Engineer will provide technical leadership for process engineering scope supporting a new nuclear fuel facility. This role will lead process design development, technical reviews, calculations, equipment sizing, process safety support, and engineering deliverables for DOE, nuclear, chemical, or other high-hazard facility systems.
The position requires a senior engineer capable of leading design work, coordinating cross-discipline interfaces, mentoring engineers, and translating process requirements into safe, reliable, constructible, and operable designs. The role will work closely with I&C, piping, mechanical, HVAC, nuclear safety, operations, procurement, vendors, and project leadership.
Responsibilities
  • Lead process engineering design activities for nuclear, chemical, high-hazard, or DOE facility systems.
  • Develop, review, and approve process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat and material balances, process calculations, hydraulic analyses, and technical basis documents.
  • Perform and oversee equipment sizing for vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, piping systems, process utilities, control valves, relief devices, and related process equipment.
  • Support process safety activities, hazard reviews, operability reviews, design reviews, safety basis interfaces, and implementation of credited process controls.
  • Lead development of process design criteria, system descriptions, specifications, datasheets, procurement packages, and vendor technical evaluations.
  • Coordinate with piping, I&C, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, civil/structural, radiological controls, criticality safety, quality, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
  • Review vendor data, resolve technical comments, evaluate design changes, and provide engineering support during procurement, construction, testing, startup, and commissioning.
  • Mentor process engineers and designers while maintaining technical quality, schedule alignment, configuration control, and client expectations.

Requirements
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of process engineering experience supporting DOE, nuclear, chemical, high-hazard, fuel cycle, radiological, or highly regulated industrial facilities.
  • Strong experience with PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulics, process calculations, equipment sizing, process safety, technical specifications, and design leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process design work and coordinate engineering deliverables across multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of process hazards, design basis development, system operability, configuration control, and regulated facility requirements.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, leadership, review, and issue-resolution skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access, training, and security clearances.
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, ship is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with nuclear fuel facilities, uranium processing, chemical processing, hot cells, gloveboxes, gas transfer systems, or high-temperature process systems.
  • Experience supporting DOE nuclear safety basis, readiness reviews, commissioning, or operational startup.
  • Professional Engineer license or advanced technical degree.
  • Active DOE L or Q clearance.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, ship is required.
