Job description

The Senior Platform Engineer will create and redesign broad technical infrastructure and information systems that define how Linux servers, networks, and storage systems work together to support the needs of the organization. You will assist in all aspects of the infrastructure lifecycle from ideation and architectural design to deployment and eventual retirement leveraging data and automation to ensure stability, scalability, and performance.
This is an on-site position located in Springfield, MO. Remote work is not an option for this position.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lifecycle Management: Monitor all aspects of the infrastructure life cycle, including long- and short-term development of Linux-based environments. Perform analyses to stay abreast of marketplace trends and ensure the platform's competitive position.
  • Architectural Design: Design and select business-critical storage, data center, and client/server environments. Document "as-is" and "to-be" processes to record accurately the changes required to migrate to modern, ideal-state architectures.
  • Systems Optimization: Drive advances in technologies (specifically Linux kernels, distributions, and containerization) to increase value, focusing on efficiency and reducing the total cost of technology operations.
  • Security & Hardening: Implement required security measures, including system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and firewall management. Monitor performance to notify security experts of anomalies.
  • Requirements Gathering: Collect business requirements via interviews and workflow analysis to express technical needs in terms of target user roles and organizational goals.
  • Automation & Tooling: Contribute to the continued improvement of infrastructure automation (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet) and internal development frameworks to streamline deployment.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Collect and interpret datasets related to system performance and user behavior to identify trends, pain points, and opportunities for infrastructure improvement.
  • Support & Escalation: Provide third-line escalation for complex global infrastructure issues. Participate in after-hours support and on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 stability.
  • Knowledge Leadership: Contribute to Knowledge Base articles and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Provide advice, training, and assistance to clients and junior team members to ensure platform capabilities are understood.
  • Professional Development: Maintain an in-depth understanding of relevant technology, external regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education and professional accreditation.
Skills
  • Linux Systems Mastery: Advanced knowledge of Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.), kernel tuning, and system administration.
  • Infrastructure Architecture: Ability to oversee and manage all stages of the infrastructure lifecycle, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices.
  • Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in automating routine tasks using Python, Bash, or modern Configuration Management tools.
  • Analytical Thinking: Determines and analyzes trends from system data to assist in compiling reports that drive hardware and software decision-making.
  • Project & Risk Management: Plans and prioritizes activities to meet objectives; identifies and manages technical risks (threats and opportunities) before they impact production.
  • Stakeholder Management: Communicates potential resolutions or strategies in a clear, compelling manner tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solution Validation: Identifies appropriate measures for assessing solution performance and limitations, validating these with key stakeholders to increase overall value.
Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent level.
  • Experience: Experienced practitioner (3 to 6 years) able to deal with the majority of Linux infrastructure situations and advise others.
