SSP TECHNICIAN

Position Summary:

SSP Technicians provide strong support, under the direction of their assigned Lead Technician (Lead), to the Span Special Projects (SSP) Department and its endeavors to provide stellar customer service to our clients for their existing buildings. Upholding a high level of integrity and professionalism, the SSP Technician partners with a Lead during quality assessments, inspections, maintenance, and repairs to instill a high level of customer confidence. An SSP Technician should meet or exceed the expectations of the assigned Lead and strive to become a future Lead. This position requires strong applied learning ability, with a willingness to participate in learning opportunities with their assigned Leads in a way that makes the most of the learning experience.

Essential Functions:

Safety Responsibilities:

Prioritizes safety as the utmost importance, even before production, and promotes a team culture that makes safety the primary focus for all employees at all times.

Adheres to safety procedures in accordance with federal OSHA, state-specific OSHA, and Company safety policies and regulations. Strategic Responsibilities:

Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, clients, industry, and community.

Travels by car and plane, sometimes daily, to accomplish our service goals.

Assists Lead with driving to locations.

Performs other duties as required by circumstances or assigned by the Department Manager or Lead.

Makes repairs in accordance with Company procedures to foster a positive Company image.

Assists in onsite installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks as directed by Lead.

Maintains assigned tools and equipment in good and safe manner at all times.

Follows all Company procedures and protocols.

Measures, marks, and records openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.

Loads, unloads, and identifies building materials, machinery, and tools, distributing them to appropriate locations at the guidance of the Lead.

Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.

Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.

Maintains and inventories materials and tools in the work truck.

Tends to pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment.

Mops, brushes, or spreads paints, cleaning solutions, or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection.

Identifies, packs, and transports hazardous materials (such as acetone and gasoline).

Mixes ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces.

Sprays materials (such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco) through hoses to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.

Applies caulking compounds by hand or caulking guns.

Grinds, scrapes, sands, or polishes surfaces such as metal and concrete using abrasive tools or machinery.

Seals structural components, such as concrete or metal wall sections or pipes.

Lubricates, cleans, and repairs machinery, equipment, and tools.

Operates hand tools, drills and welding equipment.

Installs or dismantles storm drainpipes or gutter systems using machinery and small hand tools.

Controls traffic passing near, in, and around work zones (including foot traffic).

Adheres to and maintains a professional image by presenting oneself professionally in appearance and through the spoken word. A clean and neat appearance must be adhered to at all times.

Skills and Abilities:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Sufficient experience may be substituted for educational background.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous welding experience.

Experience working outdoors with a small team to accomplish physical tasks is preferred.

Experience in steel erection, roofing, or heavy equipment operation preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Understanding of basic computer navigation skills required to complete online trainings. Experience with cell phones and other common Company communication tools (e.g., e-mail, internet, etc.) to keep in communication with supervisors as required.

CERTIFICATIONS &

LICENSES:

  • Must have a valid drivers' license.
  • Must be able to be insured on the Company's insurance policy as a driver for the Company.
  • Must be willing and capable of testing and obtaining necessary certifications such as:
    • OSHA 10 certification.
    • Certified Aerial Platform and Forklift Operator preferred.
    • Welding Certification - Certified Shielded Metal Arc Welder (SMAW)
    • Certifications may be acquired at the start of employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to receive instruction and supervision.
  • Ability to perform work at elevations more than 30 feet. Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Travel requires multiple project locations.
  • Must always wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, harness, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and relevant construction safety regulations.
  • Willing and able to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Travel demands of this position vary per day depending upon the turnover frequency of projects. Foot controls and sitting may be used to operate machinery/vehicles occasionally while at a project location and constantly while traveling for long periods of time between locations.
  • Sitting occurs on breaks and for longer durations while traveling by car, airplane, or train. While not traveling, employees will alternate between stand and walk throughout the shift and is continuously on feet. Physical demands of the job may vary per day depending upon specific job assignments.
  • Workers have the option of choosing own body mechanics when performing required tasks.
  • Lifting consists of tools, bolts, construction materials, power tools at a range of from floor to overhead.
