Job Description Director of Teaching and Learning (6-12)

Contract Length  12 months (230 days)

Salary Range: $108, 001.10 to $122,500.30

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Learning and School Leadership and the Superintendent, the Director of Teaching and Learning (612) provides leadership, direction, coordination, and oversight for the district's grades 612 instructional program. The position is responsible for supporting curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, instructional planning, and program implementation to improve teaching effectiveness and student achievement across the Lee County School System.
 Essential Functions


  • Provides leadership for the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the district's grades 612 curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs in alignment with district goals, state standards, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Directs and supports curriculum review, development, revision, and implementation in accordance with the district's curriculum cycle and instructional priorities.
  • Leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of professional learning for certified staff, with a focus on instructional quality, student learning, and continuous professional growth.
  • Coordinates the selection, review, and adoption of instructional materials and resources through established district processes and committees.
  • Analyzes student achievement data, assessment results, and program outcomes to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and support instructional improvement.
  • Supports the development and implementation of effective assessment systems and data collection processes to monitor baseline performance, growth, and longitudinal trends.
  • Collaborates with principals, instructional supervisors, administrators, and teachers to strengthen instructional practices, support school improvement, and meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assists with the implementation of instructional practices, programs, and technologies that promote high levels of student learning and achievement.
  • Coordinates district testing analysis and supports the use of assessment results to inform instructional planning and decision-making.
  • Communicates current developments, research, and best practices in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement to district and school leaders.
  • Serves as a resource to central office and school administrators in the development and implementation of instructional practices, procedures, and related initiatives.
  • Supports school, parent, and community engagement efforts as they relate to instructional programs and student achievement.
  • Assists in the development, administration, and monitoring of budgets related to curriculum, instruction, and professional learning.
  • Assists with the development, management, and oversight of state and federal grant applications, budgets, and program requirements related to instructional services.
  • Monitors compliance with applicable federal and state requirements related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
  • Coordinates the district's remedial education program for grades 612.
  • Coordinates meetings and ongoing support for school-level instructional supervisors, including curriculum planning, instructional improvement, and professional learning.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and support of certified personnel as requested.
  • Maintains current professional knowledge through professional learning, research, workshops, conferences, and other growth opportunities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

  • Knowledge of professional learning design, program evaluation, and staff support practices.
  • Knowledge of student performance data analysis and the development of action plans for improvement.
  • Ability to lead and support district-wide instructional programs and initiatives for grades 612.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and monitor multiple projects, priorities, and timelines.
  • Ability to analyze data and use findings to support instructional decision-making and program improvement.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally, including reports, presentations, memos, and other correspondence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to use technology, data systems, and software applications relevant to the position.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively in a professional environment.

Qualifications 

  • Holds or is eligible to hold Educational Leadership certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, as required for the position.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to provide reliable transportation.
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

Education

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field required.
  • Specialist or doctoral degree preferred.

Experience

  • Successful experience in school or district administration.
  • Documented success in curriculum development, instructional improvement, professional learning, and staff support.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating effective instructional programs.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting staff.
