About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing and developing scalable, high-performance backend solutions that power critical business applications. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, product owners, developers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative cloud-native solutions.
In This Role, You Will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and modern microservices architectures.
  • Drive user story analysis, technical design, and implementation within an Agile development environment.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, pair programming, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build and support highly available distributed systems leveraging cloud-native and event-driven architectures.
  • Mentor team members and promote collaboration across engineering and business teams.
Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days per week in a Cognizant or client office in Phoenix, Arizona or Sunrise, Florida. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
  • 7+ years of experience developing enterprise backend applications using Java/J2EE.
  • 5+ years of experience with reactive programming frameworks such as Spring WebFlux, Vert.x, or RxJava.
  • Strong expertise in REST API design and development.
  • Hands-on experience with SOA, microservices, and containerized architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong experience with event-driven and streaming technologies such as Kafka or Solace.
  • Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or other NoSQL/document databases.
  • Experience building and supporting distributed, highly available systems.
  • Familiarity with security principles, SSL, cryptography, and secure software development practices.
  • Experience using Git, Jenkins, IntelliJ IDEA, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position depends on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
