Position Description & Qualifications Are you looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Java) position where you can make an impact on protecting the infrastructure that underlies our modern world? Serco is seeking an experienced and motivated software engineer to join our Advanced Technology Group (ATG) to build and deliver cutting-edges solutions for national defense systems. In this role, you will have the agency to design and implement the next generation of capabilities for operational systems that are increasingly adopting data driven workflows to streamline operations and deliver new capabilities to the Warfighter. Our team develops interfaces and interconnections between systems, data processing pipelines that process unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data, and foundational software that integrates disparate data sources into database systems. Our software underlies a set of emerging capabilities that enhance situational awareness and streamline operational decision making. In this role, you will: * Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software, primarily in Java * Parsing of structured and semi-structured data formats * APIs and interconnections between systems and components * Data processing pipelines and components * Implement business processes * Implement standards for authentication, authorization, information security marking, and fine-grained access control. * Test and deploy software in Linux based environments * Interface with customers to define requirements and communicate them to the development team * Ensure software complies with client-defined functional and security requirements. * Write software documentation To be successful in this role, you will have: * Must be a U.S. Citizen * Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance * Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related STEM discipline from an accredited university * Minimum 5 years of relevant experience * Advanced knowledge of the Java programming language * Ability to independently develop complex software features * Strong stakeholder communication, documentation, and collaboration skills; ability to work with military and civilian personnel * Ability to travel up to 10% Additional desired experience and skills: * Experience with formal grammars, parsing techniques (e.g, LR parsers), and language design * Experience contributing to production-grade software * Experience with DoD information systems, use cases, and development practices * Experience writing software that interacts with databases and a working knowledge of database internals * Experience with Jakarta EE application development and related standards (JAX-RS, CDI, Config, Servlet) or similar frameworks * Working knowledge of web standards, common protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS), and common data formats (e.g., XML, JSON) * Experience writing software that integrates with authentication, authorization, and single-sign-on technologies * Experience with software containerization and container orchestration technologies * Advanced knowledge of Linux including development and hardening of system services * Working knowledge of secure software development practices and common weaknesses * Working knowledge of Git and bug tracking tools such as JIRA If you are interested in supporting and working with our military and a passionate Serco team.
