Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Engineer to support Oracle database upgrade readiness and application compatibility remediation. The resource will be responsible for assessing Java applications impacted by Oracle database and JDBC driver upgrades, implementing required code and configuration changes, and ensuring successful integration, regression, deployment, and production stabilization.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Java backend development, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Oracle database connectivity, JDBC driver upgrades, SQL troubleshooting, Maven/Gradle dependency management, unit testing, CI/CD, and production support. The role requires close collaboration with application, database, infrastructure, DevOps, QA, and client stakeholder teams.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze Java backend applications and services impacted by Oracle database version upgrades and Oracle JDBC driver changes.
  • Upgrade Oracle JDBC drivers and related Java dependencies using Maven, Gradle, or equivalent dependency management tools.
  • Implement Java and Spring Boot code changes required to maintain compatibility with upgraded Oracle database environments.
  • Review and update database connection configuration, connection pooling, datasource settings, SSL/TLS settings, environment variables, and application properties as required.
  • Troubleshoot Oracle connectivity, SQL execution, transaction handling, performance, timeout, authentication, and driver compatibility issues.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and defect remediation for applications impacted by Oracle upgrade activities.
  • Support REST API validation, service integration testing, application deployment, release coordination, and production readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with DBA, DevOps, QA, security, infrastructure, and application teams to resolve environment-specific issues and ensure controlled production deployment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of overall software engineering experience with strong Java backend development background.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Java/Spring Boot development experience in enterprise application environments.
  • 2+ years of experience with Oracle connectivity, JDBC driver upgrades, database integration, or application compatibility remediation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
    Base Compensation Range: $145,000 - $160,000
The posted range is the hiring range for this role - a subset of the broader range available to employees over time - and reflects base salary across our national hiring scale. Final offers are based on several factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, internal pay equity, work location, market conditions for the role, and the specific scope and responsibilities of the position. The top of the range is reserved for candidates who notably exceed the requirements; the lower end applies to those with less experience or fewer preferred qualifications. For positions based in higher-cost zones (e.g., California, New York, New Jersey), actual compensation may exceed the posted range; your recruiter will share specifics during the process.
