Job Summary

The Sr Electrical Engineer Train Control Maintenance & Compliance will support operations and modifications to Amtrak's train control systems. This individual will be responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems, audit of system compliances, implementation support, and testing and commissioning.  Additionally, the Sr Electrical Engineer will be responsible for training Amtrak force account, maintenance, system monitoring, asset database maintenance and system troubleshooting and interaction with division management

Essential Functions
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of the train control system
  • Provides train control technical assistance to Amtrak forces including troubleshooting and repair oversight.
  • Monitors performance of operational train control systems
  • Recommend design modifications and standards based on investigation of operating system performance
  • Develops and maintains standard specification, drawings, tests and procedures to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of all train control equipment and configurations
  • Responsible for coordinating activities in the field and for identifying and resolving discrepancies between field conditions and Amtrak standards. 
  • Inspects, evaluates and accepts signal and communications and related equipment for use with Amtrak's train control system.
  • Participates in the development of interoperability standards and procedures with tenant freight and passenger railroads.
  • Supervises vendor compliance with Amtrak standards of quality and workmanship.
  • Provide train control technical training and support to Force Account personnel
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Plus,
  • 6 years of experience in project controls.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of Railroad Safety Rules, RWP and NORAC qualifications.
  • Familiar with FRA regulations related to communications and train control
  • Extensive experience working in the design, commissioning or maintenance of train control systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be familiar with control and monitoring systems
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating orally and in writing within and outside of the organization.
  • Must have experience working in the design, commissioning and/or maintenance of train control systems
  • Ability to coordinate projects between many different disciplines.
  • Must have familiarity with communications and train control standard industry practices.
  • Ability to shift priorities at short notice
  • Ability to coach and mentor others
  • Knowledge of Federal regulations and directives

The salary/hourly range is $103,700.00 - $134,460.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
