The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a qualified
Senior Interior Designer in a prominent federal agency in the Washington, DC area. The Senior Interior Designer will work with the Design Services Team, under the direction of the Lead Designer to support Workplace Strategy & Design Management and will use AutoCAD daily to update or develop detailed plans and drawings for new construction, renovations, and reconfigurations of campus buildings. This role will also lead certain aspects of a project utilizing creative and technical skills and abilities.
โข Use established standards to develop detailed 2D drawings to include FF&E, architectural, electrical, and mechanical building systems
โข Support multiple projects of varying size, complexity and intensity
โข Review furniture proposals using working knowledge of the industry
โข Prepare and present specifications
โข Support construction administration as needed, such as site inspections, to ensure proper installation and adherence to design specifications
โข Work with identified client stakeholders to determine initial goals and requirements for the spaces to be designed
โข Keep the client and Lead Designer apprised of project status
โข Demonstrate outside-the-box, analytical, and critical thinking while adhering to established standards
โข Use advanced A&D professional skills to work through challenges and create solutions for presentation
โข Protect all sensitive information being evaluated in accordance with Federal regulations and procedures
โข Work closely with project managers, spaces planners, and other stakeholders ensure design cohesiveness and project goals are met on time
โข Be accountable for assigned projects and tasks from beginning to end
โข Prepare sketches or other visual aids to demonstrate design intent to client
โข Ensure client satisfaction
โข Maintain current knowledge of trends, materials, techniques, and other developments in A&D
โข Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills & Requirements
Required Experience & Skills
โข Minimum of 8 years of experience in Institutional architecture, interior design, or space planning
โข Top Secret Clearance
โข Expertise in the construction documentation process
โข Knowledge of Building Codes, ADA, regulations, industry standard practices and processes
โข Ability to work well in a team-based environment, both within the design team and broader group, with the common goal of a successful project
โข Meet a level of professionalism in both verbal and written communication skills as this role requires daily communication with internal and external project team members
โข Strong organizational, problem-solving, project management skills
โข High attention to detail
โข Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and respond quickly
โข Ability to prioritize tasks and work in fast-paced environment under pressure
โข Ability to pivot seamlessly as project requirements and timelines change
โข Ability to create and present multiple solutions
โข Advanced Proficiency in the Design Process with the ability and aptitude to step in at any point to lead the design portion of a project
โข Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat
โข Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Experience & Skills
โข Institutional or Government work experience, Federal is preferred
โข Successful completion of, or working towards, NCIDQ or NCARB certification
โข Ability to contribute to process improvements and support agency mission
โข Experience using TRIRIGA for Space Management with TRIRIGA CAD Integrator
โข Working knowledge of commercial furniture and/or furniture dealership experience
โข Previous experience and clearance with the Federal or State government
Required Education
โข Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field
โข Provide design portfolio with emphasis on presentation and technical skills
