Job description

About Atria:ย

The Atria Health Institute is a membership-based primary and specialty health care practice with a focus on prevention and longevity. We bring together a multidisciplinary team of renowned physicians to provide proactive, preventive, and precision-based care for Atria members and their families. All care, including primary care, advanced screening and diagnostics, urgent care, specialty care, 24/7 home visits, and imaging is included in members' annual fee.

Our mission is to make healthspan and lifespan equal for all by translating science into medicine in real-time, all while bringing humanity back into health care. Delivering such robust, personalized, and preventive health care is complex and requires a team-wide dedication to excellence.ย

After successfully opening our flagship Institute in New York in 2022 and expanding to South Florida in 2024, we are now bringing the Atria experience to the West Coast with the launch of our Los Angeles Institute in late spring 2026.

Atria Health is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Platform Engineering team to help design, build, and scale the foundational systems that power our member and clinical experiences.

This is a senior individual contributor role focused on:

  • Building and maintaining high-quality platform services across the stack (backend, integrations, shared tooling)
  • Owning platform projects end to end - from design to launch, adoption, and iteration
  • Partnering closely with our domain product teams (Clinical Experience, Member Experience, and Care Delivery) to accelerate how they build

You'll work with other engineers and product teams to shape our integration patterns, caching strategies, and shared services, contribute to our architecture, and ensure that what we ship is reliable, observable, and grounded in data. From resilient EMR integrations and smart caching to clean internal APIs and strong monitoring in Sentry and Mixpanel, you'll care about both how we build and what we achieve.

Tech Stack
  • Languages: TypeScript
  • Backend: Node, Express
  • Frontend: React
  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform
  • Database: MySQL, Redis, PostgreSQL
  • Tooling & Integrations: GitHub, Sentry, Okta, Mixpanel, Omni, Athena EMR, Wearable Platforms, third-party healthcare APIs
Key ResponsibilitiesDelivery & Platform Enablement
  • Partner with product engineering teams to understand their needs and deliver platform solutions that accelerate development.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of platform services: design, implementation, testing, rollout, and iteration.
  • Build and maintain shared libraries, SDKs, and internal APIs that improve developer productivity, along with the documentation and examples teams need to adopt them.
Architecture & Systems
  • Design and implement APIs, data models, and integration patterns supporting your core domain.
  • Own the design, implementation, and maintenance of Athena EMR integrations, building scalable, resilient patterns for clinical data synchronization.
  • Design and implement caching strategies with appropriate invalidation patterns to improve performance and reduce external API dependencies.
  • Contribute to evolving our architecture so teams can build new experiences quickly without re-inventing the wheel.
  • Build with reliability and performance in mind: help define graceful failure modes, timeouts, and efficient queries.
  • Participate in design reviews and RFCs, bringing a pragmatic, platform-focused perspective.
Quality, Observability & Performance
  • Write well-tested code with meaningful unit and integration tests.
  • Instrument platform services with high-quality monitoring and analytics, using consistent events and properties across products.
  • Dig into performance bottlenecks and issues to drive them to resolution.
Teamwork, Mentorship & Culture
  • Contribute to and uphold engineering standards: coding conventions, design patterns, documentation practices.
  • Give thoughtful and constructive code reviews, and mentor other engineers through pairing and knowledge sharing.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering. This is a hybrid role based in New York City, with 3 days/week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday). Travel to other Atria locations as needed.

Compensation: $190,000 to $250,000 (based on location)

Requirements

Core Experience
  • ~5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend or platform systems in production environments.
  • Track record of owning and shipping services, integrations, or infrastructure in a modern stack.
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations with external systems and third-party APIs.
  • Comfortable working in evolving domains and making complex tradeoffs.
Technical Skills
  • Strong backend skills: you can design an API and schema, model data, and build resilient integrations between systems.
  • Proficiency with TypeScript and Node.
  • Experience with caching (e.g., Redis) and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with at least one cloud provider (ideally Google Cloud Platform).
  • Solid instincts for systems design fundamentals: reliability, performance, and security.
  • Comfortable debugging across the stack: logs, traces, metrics, and data.
Behaviors
  • Take ownership of your work end to end and follow through on details.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in meetings, tailored to your audience.
  • Comfortable working with clinicians, operations, and other non-technical partners.
  • Open to feedback and invested in helping the team continuously improve.
