Job description

Peak Energy

Job Title: IT System Administrator (Sacramento)

Location: Sacramento, California

Department: IT

Reports To: Senior IT Manager

Position Type: Full-time, In-person

About the Company

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven sodium-ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-ion is cheap, readily available, and safe — making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, SunPower, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners including TDK Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and GM Ventures.

We recently announced America's first sodium-ion grid storage factory in Sacramento with production starting Q1 2027, and over $1B in signed customer commitments including Jupiter Power and Energy Vault.

About the Role - IT System Administrator

Peak Energy is looking for a Sacramento-based IT System Administrator to own IT infrastructure and physical setup at our 183,000 square-foot factory in Metro Air Park. This is a hands-on, on-the-floor role for someone who's just as comfortable pulling cable through a plenum, terminating fiber, and coordinating with electrical contractors as they are troubleshooting a laptop or provisioning a new hire.

You'll be the primary IT presence at the Sacramento site from buildout through steady-state production. You'll partner with Facilities, EHS, Manufacturing Engineering, and outside low-voltage and electrical contractors to stand up the site's network, WAP coverage, cameras, badge access, conference rooms, and end-user infrastructure. Once the site is running, you'll own day-to-day IT operations for the on-site workforce — hourly production, engineers, and site leadership.

This is a role for someone who thrives on the rough end of IT — the site is under active construction and installation through 2026, and you should be comfortable in steel-toed boots, hardhats, and around active production. The work is a mix of infrastructure engineering, cable pulls, vendor coordination, and classic IT support.

This role reports to the Senior IT Manager and works closely with the People team, Facilities team, EHS, Manufacturing, and site leaders in Sacramento.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Site Infrastructure & Buildout

  • Own IT infrastructure buildout at the Sacramento factory: network cabling, patch panels, network closets, wireless access points, conference rooms, and physical security systems.
  • Pull and terminate Ethernet and fiber runs across the facility. Test and label runs. Maintain accurate cabling documentation.
  • Coordinate with outside low-voltage installers, electrical contractors, security integrators, and AV vendors during factory buildout and expansion.
  • Partner with Facilities and EHS on IT-adjacent physical systems — cameras, badge access, PA systems, plant Wi-Fi coverage, and warehouse scanners.
  • Stand up conference room AV, digital signage, and shift-lead workstations across the factory floor and office areas.

End-user IT Support

  • Serve as the primary IT support contact for Sacramento employees: help desk, laptop and workstation provisioning, imaging, endpoint management, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Own new-hire IT onboarding and departing-employee offboarding for the site in partnership with the on-site People team — including hourly production ramp cohorts starting Jan 2027.
  • Support engineers, shift leads, and hourly production workers with responsive, high-quality service.
  • Manage the equipment lifecycle for the site — procurement, asset tracking, retrieval, refresh cycles.

IT / OT Boundary

  • Support the boundary between corporate IT and operational technology (OT) systems — MES, PLCs, industrial network segmentation, shop-floor devices.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Automation on network requirements for production equipment.
  • Enforce network segmentation and security policies between corporate and manufacturing networks.

Security, Compliance & Vendors

  • Enforce endpoint compliance — patching, encryption, MDM policies — across all Sacramento devices.
  • Support the company's readiness for compliance frameworks at the site level.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with local IT vendors, installers, and MSPs; escalate to the Senior IT Manager on contracts and larger commitments.
  • Partner with the Burlingame IT System Administrator to keep corporate systems, security, and identity infrastructure aligned across sites.

What You'll Bring (Qualifications)

  • 4+ years of hands-on IT experience, including physical infrastructure work — cable runs, terminations, network closets, WAP deployment.
  • Comfort working in construction, industrial, or factory environments — steel-toed boots, PPE, active worksites.
  • Solid working knowledge of networking — Wi-Fi, switches, VLANs, DHCP/DNS, structured cabling standards.
  • Strong end-user support skills — laptop imaging, endpoint troubleshooting, help desk operations.
  • Familiarity with Azure AD, Entra (or equivalent SSO), and modern MDM/endpoint tools (Intune, Apple Business).
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, installers, or vendors on physical IT installations.
  • Comfort with the pace and unpredictability of a factory buildout and ramp.
  • Excellent communicator who can partner with shift leads, hourly production workers, engineers, and outside contractors alike.
  • Willingness and ability to be onsite at the Sacramento facility 5 days per week, with flexibility for evening or weekend work during buildout, installations, or production issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior IT experience at a manufacturing, industrial, or plant site.
  • Experience standing up IT infrastructure at a greenfield facility.
  • Familiarity with OT systems (MES, PLCs, industrial network segmentation) in manufacturing environments.
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, or similar.
  • Spanish language skills (useful with Sacramento region workforce demographics).

Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $100,000–$140,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Strong 401(k) plan
