Senior Helper information

What is a Senior Helper?

Senior Helpers are professional caregivers who provide support and assistance to elderly individuals, often helping with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, and companionship. They may work in private homes, assisted living facilities, or other care settings to help seniors maintain their independence and quality of life. Senior Helpers can also offer specialized care for individuals with conditions like dementia or mobility challenges, tailoring their services to meet each person's unique needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Helper, you need experience in caregiving, knowledge of elderly care best practices, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with mobility aids, basic medical equipment, and first aid or CPR certification is typically required. Patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills are crucial for building trust and providing emotional support to seniors. These abilities ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of elderly clients while facilitating a positive caregiving environment.

What are some common challenges faced by senior helpers when supporting clients with varying needs?

Senior Helpers often encounter the challenge of adapting to each client’s unique needs and preferences, which can range from physical assistance with mobility to providing companionship or supporting cognitive health. Balancing these responsibilities while maintaining clear communication with family members and healthcare professionals is essential. Flexibility, patience, and strong interpersonal skills are vital for navigating unexpected changes in a client’s condition or routine, ensuring care remains compassionate and effective.

The role is intended for someone operating at a Senior Systems Engineering level, who is able to work directly with Government, prime contractor, subcontractor, engineering, and program leadership.

What you'll do:

The Sr. Technical Project Engineer will support task execution, technical coordination, and delivery oversight for modernization efforts in Huntsville. The role will help translate Government priorities into executable engineering tasks, track progress across teams, identify technical and programmatic risks, and support delivery alignment across MOSA, DevSecOps, CI/CD, virtual testbed, software integration, and fielding-related activities.

This person should be able to operate independently, engage senior stakeholders, understand complex technical baselines, and provide clear status, risks, recommendations, and action tracking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior-level technical oversight across modernization tasks, engineering activities, and delivery priorities.
  • Track task execution, action items, risks, blockers, dependencies, and technical decisions across teams.
  • Support coordination between Government, prime, subcontractor, and industry partners.
  • Help align software modernization, MOSA architecture, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and virtual testbed activities to program objectives.
  • Review technical plans, white papers, architectures, schedules, and engineering artifacts for quality, feasibility, and alignment.
  • Support technical baseline management, requirements traceability, integration planning, and verification planning.
  • Identify execution risks early and provide recommended mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare senior-level briefings, status updates, decision packages, and technical summaries.
  • Support industry engagement, technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and integration planning sessions.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to help move work from concept to executable tasking and measurable progress.
Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D. In lieu of degree, 16 years of applicable experience will be acceptable.
  • Experience in systems engineering, software engineering, defense modernization, C5ISR, IAMD, missile defense, or complex DoD integration programs.
  • Prior senior technical leadership role such as Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, Engineering Manager, Technical Director, Lead Systems Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Army, Missile Defense Agency, PEO Missiles and Space, IFMC, IBCS, or related integrated air and missile defense programs.
  • Strong understanding of complex DoD software-intensive systems, technical baselines, integration environments, and system-of-systems engineering.
  • Experience working with Government customers, prime contractors, subcontractors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to work locally in Huntsville, AL, with regular in-person engagement as required.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Direct IBCS, IFMC, Army IAMD, or C2/BMC2 experience.
  • Experience with MOSA, open architecture, modular software design, and hardware/software decoupling.
  • Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, GitLab, Kubernetes/OpenShift, automated test, and software factory concepts.
  • Familiarity with virtual testbeds, digital engineering, model-based systems engineering, simulation, and integration lab environments.
  • Experience with requirements management, interface control, verification planning, test readiness, and technical reviews
  • Experience supporting OTA, RFI/RFP, capture, proposal, or technical volume development.
  • Familiarity with Agile execution, Jira/ADO, backlog management, sprint planning, and engineering business rhythms.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks, AI-enabled program management tools, or AI/ML integration in DoD systems is a plus.
