BASIC FUNCTION:

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of packaging machinery and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality packaging solutions. This role provides engineering design knowledge and has the skills required for the design, application and maintenance of automated packaging machinery using a high degree of creativity and latitude to provide the customer with a design solution. A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the field of Electro-Mechanical equipment design and manufacture.


PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Equipment Design. Prepare detailed designs based on written and verbal specifications of desired machinery function. May include conveyor systems and other OEM equipment in the design concept. Prepare detailed specifications, BOM’s and cost estimates for customer driven requirements. Identify and implement design improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and regulations. Present designs confidently to customers in review meetings and/or issue resolution meetings.

· Project Planning. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including sales, project management, and manufacturing, to ensure project milestones are met.

· Cost Control. Evaluate materials and processes to ensure cost effective designs. May include annual audits as a function of continuous improvement.

· Quality Control. Responsible to review, improve and implement new procedures to maintain and improve quality control year on year.

· Technical Support and Troubleshooting. Provide technical support for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of packaging equipment. Troubleshoot problems occurring during development, fabrication, assembly or commissioning of machinery. Provide in-field and phone support for service related activities. Travel up to 25% may be required.

· Supervision of Design Team. Supervise design teams to ensure project performance, deadline, and budget commitments are met.

· Continuous Improvement. Provide engineering support to product lifecycle management and other processes as assigned.

Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

· Demonstrated ability to generate and validate design concepts aimed at delivering customer specified solutions.

· Proficiency in CAD Software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc).

· Strong understanding of mechanical systems and principals.

· Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.

· Demonstrated ability to train and guide team members through design and delivery of complex engineered solutions.

· Demonstrated ability to provide sound judgement and the ability to lead and organize cross-functional teams, in a professional manner.

· Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality product designs, including performance, timeline and project budget considerations.

· Demonstrated ability to accept responsibility and accountability for new and varied assignments.

· Excellent technical understanding, verbal communication skills, organizational and problem solving skills.


QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

· Minimum of two years Solid Modeling design experience. Autodesk Inventor experience preferred.

· Minimum five years experience in machinery design

· Robotic integration experience a plus
