Job description

Major Gifts Officer

Department: Admin

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Chelsea, MI

Description

At the UMRC-Porter Hills Foundation, philanthropy is more than fundraising - it is a meaningful way to honor older adults, strengthen communities, and help create vibrant, compassionate places where people can age with dignity, purpose, and connection. We are seeking a seasoned Major Gifts Officer who is inspired by this mission and energized by the opportunity to build lasting relationships with donors who want their generosity to make a profound and personal impact.

This role offers the opportunity to serve in a rich and rewarding environment where stories of generosity, gratitude, faith, service, and community come together every day. As a trusted ambassador for the Foundation, the Major Gifts Officer will connect donors with opportunities to advance life-enriching programs, services, and experiences for older adults across Michigan, with a primary focus on the east side of the state.

About the opportunity
  • Build deep, authentic relationships with donors, families, community partners, and friends of the Foundation who share a commitment to serving older adults.
  • Listen carefully to donor interests and values, helping connect their philanthropic goals with meaningful opportunities to strengthen the lives of those we serve.
  • Share compelling stories of impact that demonstrate how generosity supports dignity, belonging, innovation, spiritual care, life enrichment, and compassionate service.
  • Partner closely with Foundation and organizational leaders to advance philanthropic priorities that support the mission, vision, and faith-based values of Brio Living Services and the UMRC-Porter Hills Foundation.
  • Thoughtfully cultivate, solicit, and steward major and planned gifts in a way that honors donor intent and strengthens long-term engagement.
  • Engage board members, volunteers, and leaders as partners in building a culture of philanthropy rooted in trust, gratitude, and shared purpose.
  • Represent the Foundation with warmth, professionalism, and integrity at donor meetings, community events, and mission-centered gatherings.

The above is a summary of the position, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties this position will be required to perform. If selected for the position you will receive a full job description.

What You'll Bring
  • A heartfelt commitment to improving the lives of older adults and supporting a mission-driven, faith-based organization.
  • Seasoned experience in major gifts, planned giving, development, or relationship-based philanthropy, with demonstrated success inspiring significant charitable support.
  • A natural ability to build trust with donors, listen with curiosity, and communicate with warmth, clarity, and purpose.
  • Strong storytelling skills and the ability to translate mission, need, and impact into meaningful donor conversations.
  • Confidence partnering with senior leaders, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Excellent judgment, follow-through, and organizational discipline to manage relationships and priorities with care.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Michigan and participate in occasional evening or weekend donor and community events.
Preferred Experience
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth donors, planned giving, legacy gifts, or philanthropic campaigns.
  • Experience in senior living, aging services, healthcare, human services, faith-based ministry, or another mission-centered nonprofit environment.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • 6 weeks of Flexible Time Off (FTO) plus paid holidays
  • Competitive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Retirement Savings Plan with employer contributions
  • $500 Team Member Referral Bonus
  • Tuition assistance and scholarships up to $3,000 per semester
  • Annual wellness reimbursement
