Job description

We are seeking a Senior Automation/Controls Engineer to support a project-based engagement at a client site in Kalamazoo, MI. This role focuses on working within existing industrial automation systems, including HMI/SCADA development, system configuration, and validation support. The ideal candidate can quickly get up to speed on active projects, interpret and modify existing code and configurations, and work independently with minimal direction. This engagement is expected to total approximately 300 hours and requires full onsite availability.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and understand existing automation systems, configurations, and codebases
  • Develop and finalize HMI/SCADA displays, control faceplates, and global objects
  • Configure system instances for tanks, vacuum processes, and related equipment
  • Update navigation elements, system displays, and network status interfaces
  • Add and configure alarms and historian tags within the system
  • Support FactoryTalk components including FTAE and FT Linx integrations and shortcuts
  • Assist with communication logic such as system heartbeats and integrations with CCMS
  • Support EMS and ECS systems including troubleshooting and operational improvements
  • Perform system troubleshooting, investigations, and corrective action implementation
  • Update, review, and execute MODPROC technical documentation
  • Review and support approval of validation and project documentation
  • Work with Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) and related deliverables
  • Assist with documentation management and migration processes
  • Support validation testing activities including offline and online testing
  • Assist with development environment setup and validation readiness
  • Participate in implementation activities including displays, alarms, historian, and system updates
  • Support drawing management including walkdowns, IFC drawings, and final documentation
  • Assist with wiring standardization efforts and field verification activities
  • Provide coordination support through meetings, scheduling, and project communication

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in automation, controls, or process engineering
  • Strong experience with HMI/SCADA systems in industrial environments
  • Experience working with FactoryTalk or similar SCADA platforms
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify existing automation code and configurations
  • Experience with alarm management and historian systems
  • Knowledge of system validation processes and testing in regulated environments
  • Experience supporting deployments and working across the full system lifecycle
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated environments preferred
  • Familiarity with EMS and ECS systems is a plus
  • Experience with technical documentation, FRS, and validation documentation
  • Exposure to CAD drawings, IFC documentation, and field walkdowns preferred
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across cross-functional teams
