They are proficient in multiple programming languages and frameworks, enabling them to handle servers, databases, APIs, and user interfaces. In addition to coding, they often lead development teams, make architectural decisions, and ensure software quality and scalability. Their expertise allows them to oversee the entire application lifecycle, from concept to deployment.

You will lead an engineering team, build a strong engineering culture, and partner closely with Product, Design, Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver exceptional web experiences.

This role requires a leader who is passionate about developing people, driving engineering excellence, and executing large-scale initiatives while balancing speed, quality, and operational reliability.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Define, own, and execute the long-term engineering strategy for the WEX Mobility Web Experience, including card and vehicle management, mobility payments, and future web platform capabilities.

  • Partner with architects and technical leaders to define the technical vision and architecture for the web platform.

  • Develop and maintain the engineering roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and industry best practices.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, ownership, and operational excellence.

  • Continuously improve engineering processes to increase delivery velocity, quality, and developer productivity.

  • Lead complex cross-functional engineering initiatives from planning through execution, driving alignment across teams and stakeholders.

  • Partner closely with Product, UX, and business leaders to prioritize investments and deliver customer-centric web experiences.

  • Establish and monitor engineering metrics that improve delivery predictability, quality, reliability, and team effectiveness.

  • Drive effective planning, execution, and continuous improvement through regular operating mechanisms, including sprint planning, roadmap reviews, and operational reviews.

  • Partner with Product and business leaders to maintain a healthy roadmap and define measurable objectives and key results (OKRs).

  • Collaborate across Mobility engineering teams to promote reusable platforms, shared components, and engineering best practices.

  • Hire, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering managers and software engineers.

  • Provide regular coaching, performance feedback, and career development to help team members reach their full potential.

  • Manage team capacity and staffing to ensure successful delivery of strategic priorities.

  • Communicate engineering strategy, progress, risks, and opportunities effectively to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

Experience you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.

  • 4+ years of engineering management experience leading software engineering teams.

  • Experience leading the development and delivery of modern, scalable web applications using frameworks such as Angular or React, and micro-frontend (MFE) architectures.

  • Strong understanding of modern web architectures, including single-page applications and micro-frontend patterns, application lifecycle management, and software engineering best practices.

  • Strong communication, organizational, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.

  • Solid understanding of security, privacy, authentication, authorization, and data protection principles for web applications.

  • Experience leveraging automation, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering productivity practices to improve quality and delivery velocity.

  • Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development for web engineering teams.

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, make thoughtful trade-offs, and lead teams through organizational and technical change.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience using analytics and customer insights to inform product and engineering decisions and improve user experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Angular, React, or other modern web development technologies, as well as experience with Micro-frontend (MFE) architectures.

  • Experience building shared web platforms, component libraries, reusable frameworks, or design systems.

  • Experience building high-performance distributed systems at internet-scale companies.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release automation, feature flag platforms, and web performance monitoring and observability.

  • Experience developing payment, fleet, financial technology (FinTech), or commercial card solutions.

  • Experience integrating with payment networks or card schemes.
