Job description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

The principal duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Lead the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of HAHN Automation Group equipment at customer sites
  • Provide customers with technical support and guidance during both warranty and non-warranty phases with an emphasis on mechanical and electrical diagnostics and support
  • Participate in commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and control systems as equipment is in the development phase
  • Lead the implementation of equipment upgrades and retrofits in the field on HAHN Automation Group equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and control system modifications
  • Perform equipment mechanical, electrical, and controls system check-out activities for the automated equipment as it is developed by HAHN Automation Group
  • Assist with the development of software validation protocols to confirm the machine control software meets all safety, performance, and technical requirements
  • Support customers during machine acceptance testing and qualification activities
  • Mentor and train less experienced field service staff in the techniques used to analyze and troubleshoot problems with automated equipment
  • Identify and attend outside training sessions consistent with company goals and areas of expertise to ensure continuing education and technical skill advancement
  • Provide timely and accurate service reports documenting activities and services performed at customer sites
  • Travel required, including overnight travel – potentially domestic and international

Requirements

Education: College accreditation with emphasis in engineering or equivalent field service experience, preferably from within a manufacturing firm—bachelor’s degree with concentration in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in a similar industry is required, including an emphasis on equipment assembly, diagnostics, and troubleshooting

Additional skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex automation systems, which may involve addressing software bugs, wiring or mechanical issues
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with customers in potentially stressful situations- communicating effectively and using sound judgement
  • Proficiency in the use and programming of various PLC, HMI, robot, motion control, LabVIEW, and machine vision software applicationsAbility to read and understanding electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, mechanical assembly and component drawings
  • Awareness of and dedication to complying with all internal and customer safety policies and government mandated safety regulations relative to the specific work being performed
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making skills to define, evaluate, and resolve problems systematically
  • Electrical and mechanical ability and aptitude
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Skilled in the use of various equipment such as hand tools, multi‑meters and other measurement devices (such as calipers)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with competency in computer and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to collaborate in team environments while maintaining individual duties effectively
  • Flexibility to travel, domestic and international, sometimes with minimal notice and work additional hours as needed to meet project requirements

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

As a member of HAHN Automation Group, applicants must be able to interact safely in a manufacturing environment. This includes:

  • Full body mobility with the ability to bend, stoop, climb, and lift or move 40 lbs. of weight
  • The ability to walk within restricted areas of the company manufacturing plant, and customer facilities
  • Professional conduct in regards to hygiene and dress
  • The ability to read and prepare business documents as well as conduct business over the telephone in a sometimes‑loud environment
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The ability to travel to customer, supplier, and/or inter‑company sites via vehicle or airplane (both domestic and international)
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record of acceptable risk as defined by HAHN Automation Group US’s insurance company
  • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States now and in the future without employment visa sponsorship
