Senior Exploration Geophysicist

Company: Viridien – an advanced technology, digital and Earth data company that focuses on sustainable solutions. The role is within the Earth Data department and involves leading mineral exploration projects from concept to delivery. The candidate will apply an integrated geophysical toolkit including gravity, magnetics, EM/MT, and seismic to build subsurface models, generate exploration targets, and support critical client decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead integrated geophysical interpretation and quantitative analysis for mineral exploration, including gravity, magnetics, EM, MT, and seismic methods as applicable.
  • Integrate data with geological, structural, geochemical, and drilling information.
  • Own the full technical lifecycle of projects: requirements gathering, survey design input, data quality control, processing, interpretation, integration, and final recommendation.
  • Plan and execute advanced geophysical workflows such as 2D/3D gravity and magnetic modeling, 1D/2D/3D EM and MT inversion, and integrated Earth model development.
  • Drive targeted R&D improvements: testing new inversion strategies, enhancing interpretation workflows, developing tools/scripts for automation, quality control, and data integration.
  • Translate complex geophysical results into clear, actionable insights for internal teams and clients.
  • Collaborate with geologists, petrophysicists, and data scientists to align geophysical outcomes with mineral system models and business objectives.
  • Provide technical support to the Sales team on geophysical matters and mentor junior staff on best practices and problem‑solving.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Geophysics, Geoscience, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field (PhD or MS with strong experience).
  • 7+ years of applied geophysics experience, preferably in mineral exploration or hard‑rock environments.
  • Hands‑on experience in gravity and magnetic data processing, modeling, and 2D/3D inversion.
  • Experience in EM and MT processing, inversion, and integration.
  • Joint or cooperative interpretation across multiple potential‑field, EM/MT, and seismic data sets.
  • Seismic methods for crustal imaging and structural mapping.
  • Integrated subsurface characterization and drill target generation.
  • Familiarity with commercial and/or in‑house inversion and modeling software, and ability to evaluate underlying assumptions.
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming (Python preferred; MATLAB, C++, or Julia a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop or improve workflows that enhance project quality and efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
