Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer – Embedded Systems and Product DevelopmentLynntech is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to develop complete electrical and embedded systems for prototype products in the defense, aerospace, and medical markets. A successful candidate will have opportunity to work across the product development lifecycle, from early-stage technology proof-of-concept, through prototype development and testing, to qualification of production-ready designs. The engineer will develop complete, multi-disciplinary electrical solutions, including embedded firmware/software development, custom circuit board design, integration of custom and commercial components into electrical systems, design for manufacturability, and system verification and validation. In addition to executing technical work in the development of technologies and prototypes, a successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute through leadership of project teams, mentoring other engineers, and identifying and advancing new technologies as part of proposal writing teams.Job DescriptionAt Lynntech, engineering is both theoretical and experimental. Our engineers split their time between developing detailed prototype designs and validating those designs in the lab. Engineering projects involve a wide variety of technologies at different stages in the product life cycle, from breadboard proof-of-concepts to minimum viable products. Our electronics engineers are commonly engaged in the following technical activities:Designing electrical system architectures and integrating custom electronics with commercial off-the-shelf components, such as power supplies, motor drivers, sensors, actuators, communication devices, connectors, and industrial control hardware.Developing system wiring diagrams, cable and wire-harness designs, interface-control documentation, and power-distribution architecturesDesigning and modeling of schematics for both analog and digital circuitsDesigning and testing custom printed circuit boards for analog and digital applicationsCreating custom firmware implementations on a variety of platforms for implementation into advanced test fixtures, prototype designs, and marketable productsMaturing prototype electrical systems into reproducible and supportable product designs through component derating, tolerance analysis, design-for-manufacture and design-for-test practices, environmental considerations, and verification against system requirementsA Senior engineer will also be involved in leadership activities in many facets of technology advancement and transition:Working with customers, end users, business-development personnel, and manufacturing partners to translate operational needs into technical requirements and map out technology development strategiesCollaborating with scientists and engineers to develop grant proposals for the exploration and application of new technologies and the continued development of core technologiesLeading design engineers in early-stage project research to support development of system requirements, architecture, and interfaces for an envisioned prototypeDeveloping and executing test plans for evaluating the performance of prototype designs based on system requirementsDesigning and fabricating test fixtures to support evaluation of prototypes, from breadboard systems to minimum viable productsPlanning and conducting system design verification and validation activitiesSupporting technical writing efforts to generate customer reports for existing projectsSupporting technology transition activities, including technical maturation, cost and manufacturability assessments, qualification testing, field demonstrations, and transfer of designs to internal or external manufacturing organizationsWorking as an electronics engineer at Lynntech has potential for many and varied long-term career opportunities. Our engineers can advance as technical experts in their discipline, develop expertise in one or more technology areas, and/or take on project, personnel, or other leadership roles. Long-term growth opportunities abound in the engineering career path, where our engineers can determine their own ceiling according to their passion, proficiency, and ability to add value to the engineering team and the organization.Basic QualificationsBachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field with at least 5 years of progressively complex engineering experience (or Masters Degree with at least 2 years of experience)Strong fundamentals in electrical, electronics, and software engineering with the ability to review and provide feedback on peers' designs, as well as develop your own designsExperience in developing system and subsystem architectures in the areas of system control, power distribution, and embedded systems based on top-level product requirements and technology constraintsAbility to mentor a team of junior engineers, and autonomously facilitate design decisions in a collaborative environmentStrong technical writing, speaking, and presentation skillsAbility to work in a multi-disciplinary environment involving close interaction with other engineers within the department as well as other scientists in the companyMust be a US Citizen, or Permanent Resident, to meet project contract requirementsPreferred Skills and ExperienceBachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 6-8 years of progressively complex engineering experience (Or Masters Degree with at least 4-6 years of experience) preferably in a technology development oriented industrial settingExtensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule and conduct the tasks necessary to meet established deadlines or milestonesBasic knowledge of systems engineering and the ability to interface with various teams within the technology to product development lifecycle including but not limited to scientific personnel, CAD, mechanical engineers, instrumental, control, machining and fabrication, and system assembly and testing.Experience with signal processingUnderstanding of machine learning algorithmsExperience with electronics engineering design, embedded microcontroller programming, FPGA development, or similar relevant education and experienceKnowledge of various communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, serial, USB, CAN, and TCP/IPProgramming experience in C/C++, C#, Java, Kotlin, Python, VHDL, or related languagesSPICE modeling applied to analog and digital circuit developmentKnowledge and experience in power supply design, embedded processor solutions, filtering, and data acquisition development (A/D and D/A conversion)Hardware development (schematics, layout, test) (analog and digital design)Knowledge and experience in PCB design methods and tools such as Altium DesignerFirmware development (microcontrollers such as the PIC32, ARM, or MSP430)Experience in troubleshooting complex embedded systemsExperience managing component lifecycle, obsolescence, alternates, supplier risk, and traceability for systems developed for defense, aerospace, medical, or other regulated applicationsWorking knowledge of general constraints with mechanical and software development, to be able to work with team members with these functionalitiesExperience with technical writing and grantsmanshipInterested candidates are encouraged to apply online at www.lynntech.com.
