Job description

Job Title: Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer
Location: Newark, DE (Onsite- 5 days a week)

Experience: 8+ years

K61 processor experience is good to have. If unable to find then look for Kinetis OR MK61 OR Freescale OR NXP OR any other Microcontrollers/Microprocessor experience.
Medical device industry experience is good to have otherwise any regulated industry experience will work.

Job Description:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Senior-level commercial experience in embedded firmware development.
Proven experience in regulated industries (e.g., Medical Devices / SaMD / ISO 13485).
Expert proficiency in C++ (specifically heavy reliance on Templates) and C programming.
Deep hands-on experience or familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
Extensive technical knowledge of the K61 processor family or any other microcontrollers.
Practical experience developing and tuning Real-Time Motor Control systems (2–3 axis systems).
Strong proficiency with CAN bus protocols and embedded communication stacks.
Hands-on expertise with laboratory hardware equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
Analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex hardware-software interaction issues.
High level of self-organization and ability to drive tasks independently in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced English communication skills (written and verbal) for collaborating with cross-functional and global teams.
 

Job Responsibilities:

Maintain, optimize, and debug a mature codebase written primarily in C++ with heavy utilization of C++ templates.
Support real-time 2–3 axis motor control features, ensuring high precision, stability, and safety-critical execution.
Perform complex system calibrations and configurations to meet varying hardware and accessory specifications.
Manage, monitor, and debug embedded communication interfaces, specifically over CAN bus.
Troubleshoot and resolve firmware issues, including board bring-up and peripheral interface debugging.
Utilize lab hardware equipment to diagnose physical layer, signal, and timing issues.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, calibration procedures, and regulatory artifacts.
 

Department/Project Description:

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer who will play a pivotal role in supporting, optimizing, and maintaining a critical subsystem of a capital medical device. In this role, you will work on a mature, safety-critical codebase, leveraging expert C++ skills and real-time motor control expertise to perform complex hardware-software debugging, system configurations, and calibrations. This position requires a proactive, highly autonomous professional who can troubleshoot complex hardware interfaces independently and ensure high precision and safety performance.
